Disconnect between David Braben's forum posts and newsletter

Why is there a disconnect between what the newsletter says and what David said on the forums with regards to kickstarter backers and website backers being able to play the game after 22 November? The newsletter says that the only way that you will be able to play the game is if you buy beta access for GBP15. But David said on the forum that all kickstarter backers will be able to play after the 22nd of November, and that all website backers will be able to do a single player scenario. LMAO what is said and what is done are 2 very different matters!

Yes this has been queried. I asked Michael, and what David said is correct. :) The Newsletter has it "wrong".

Why? they will get access on 22nd, Those who pre-order on 21st won't (i.e. Mercenary Edition pre-orders) or am I reading it wrong?

Kickstarter backer scenario:
Reads newsletter sees that he can only get beta access by paying GBP15, does so on the 21nd of November so that he can play until the 16th of December. The very next day beta access is given for free to all other kickstarter backers... GBP15 down the drain

For a website backer it's similar but less pronounced, as the website backer will only be able to play some SP combat scenarios if he doesn't spend the GBP15.

Communication is sometimes a bit lacking, I think probably they're crazy-busy right now, and sometimes things just slip through the nets.

Things change! Maybe they changed their minds between the time the newsletter text was written up and the time David posted to the forum?!

As i understand it the SP scenarios will be delivered to those who only pre-ordered on the store(it's been done before prior to premium beta and possibly standard beta as well iirc). It doesnt mean they have acess to gamma, but everyone would still have something to play with.

Yes that's how I understand David's post as well, but that's not what the newsletter says.

"If you can’t already play, becoming a Beta backer is the only way you will be able to play Elite: Dangerous until 16th December. "

Doing the SP scenarios isnt quite the same as playing "Elite: Dangerous"... I'd say.
They could have mentioned the SP part though for more clarity.

That applies to store backers yes, but it looks like kickstarter backers will get more than that come tomorrow...

Kickstarter backers will be able to play on the 22nd. I was talking about people who have pre-ordered on the store.

There is clearly a distinction between kickstarter backers and store backers.

Mmm, this issue still hasn't been resolved.

It's now post presentation and the game is still not available for downloaded to non-alpha/beta kickstarter backers.

Does one person not know what the other does and decides at Frontier? It seems there's not just a problem with communication going out, but also a problem with internal communication.

Kickstarter backers who paid £20 or more should now have access to Gamma. You can download the Launcher from the address in this
post:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=62562

You should then be able to log in to the Launcher and download the game - this worked for me on Saturday. I guess if it still doesn't work for you try contacting support.

Ah okay, will try that route. Wasn't able to download it from the website using the "traditional" method. Thanks for your post.

EDIT: Unfortunately that didn't work. I was able to download it and install it and login, but then the button just says "Purchase" and if I click on it it redirects me to the website. I guess kickstarter backers with only game-copies, just don't have access yet.
