Discovered but Unexplored

Hi guys, just out exploring again and trying to earn a few credits. I just wanted to pick a few brains.
ive been finding a lot of stars/planets that have been discovered, but not explored. Now does that mean that someone has warped into the system, scanned it and quickly gone again? Or that planets have been scanned but not with a Detailed Surface Scanner?

I'm scanning them anyway for when I return, but just curious if anyone knows.

Thanks Commanders, safe travels.

The unexplored status is for you, as in you can scan that system to gain exploration money when you hand in the data. This means that everyone gets a chance to scan the less frequented places in populated space and go exploring without having to take into account everyone else's exploration attempts (otherwise there would be a finite amount of exploration that could ever happen and you'd have to travel an excessively long way to scan something new). However the first person to scan a system is then recorded against it as being 'discovered by'. If you are the first person to scan a body then not only do you get your name there for all others to see but you get an additional payment on top of the usual exploration payout.

Sometimes the exploration data resets (I'd need to look up if it's a cycle or after updates, or something else) but I've previously scanned the same system two or three times as after a while its status went back to unexplored for me.

Does that help?

That does make a lot of sense actually. I did wonder how exploration payments would be affected if you could only do it once. Cheer for the info though, very helpful.

I'm finding exactly the same thing, I have not been able to find a single undiscovered system even 1000Ly away from habitable space, I find this very odd considering I played the game in preview and discovered over 2000 systems on a trip to Sagittarius A, doesn't seem right to me given all the data from preview was wiped, either someone has found a way to exploit the system or there are a few hundred thousand players all exploring in a constructive manner, but I'm going to keep pushing towards the galactic core again but if I don't start finding some undiscovered systems soon I think I will give exploration up as a bad joke in this game. Another odd thing is, try going in the names of the people who first discovered systems on the friend search, it days their gamer tag doesn't exist for a lot of them and those it does find have never played any games when you compare games. Seems a bit odd!!!

Some of us PC players don't have gamertags, bro.
We're in a shared map; we don't instance together but what's discovered in PC land and Xbox land are credited in the shared map.

I thought all the system data was going to be wiped, but I guess it could simply be that because we're sharing the same servers as PC, then there are just a lot more people exploring. Who knows....
i have found a few systems that have been discovered by '***********' though. Maybe it's just a new little glitch awaiting an iron out.

You have been added to the same back ground sim as the pc players they have been playing and finding stuff for a year. Your going to have to get really out there to start finding fresh stuff, anything you are going to find right now was found on the pc long ago.

Sounds like you are travelling along beaten paths; there can't be much in a straight line, between here and Sag A; that has not been discovered, but I bet, if you took a tangent; off to another place at random, you would find your quests.

The exploration data from preview was removed and Xbox players share the same background simulation data as PC users (including exploration), which means they've been around much longer and discovered more of the universe. But anything you now discover on Xbox one will also show you as having discovered it on pc players galaxies.

Try heading 'up or down' a couple of 100ly's first (use the X button on galaxy map) before heading to popular destinations like Sag A. I'm about 2.5k from Sol but have been finding plenty of new planets.

The pc server and the xbox server are one server. So the update when the game got released on the xbox the other day refreshed the map for everyone.

Then I'm afraid to say I feel very cheated, if we have to start our exploration over a year behind the PC version it seems very unfair. This was never explained to us and means that we will lack a considerable opportunity to make some good finds through exploration. We will always be a year behind with no chance to catch up, I know there are 400billion systems but our disadvantage is still massive, potentially I may have to explore for over a year before I find anywhere untouched by PC Gamers, we should have had our own galaxy map to explore from the start. NOT IMPRESSED

I am out about 12000LY at the moment and passed by a lot that is undiscovered. A few have the main star discovered, (Name tag), but not the individual planets on the system map. Any planets that haven't got tags on yet are still to be discovered and you will get full bonuses for them and first discovery rights when you turn them in. A lot of explorers enter the system, scan the star then leave which isn't really exploring at all but a quick survey. Lets face it, Over 6 Billion systems and it can take up to an hour to scan one whole system top to bottom, it will take more than a year to explore a fraction of them.

I started back at Wolf 406 and headed out towards Betelgeuse but was having no luck, I decided to go straight up 1000Ly then head towards the Shrogei sector but quite high up so I stand a chance of finding some black holes, I haven't found a single undiscovered system in over 400 systems visited. If as someone else stated we are now sharing the same data with the PC players then it puts us at somewhat of a disadvantage considering they have had the game for a year.

I got out about 900 lys and started finding many systems untouched... I took an odd direction into nowhere, it helps...

However my game locked up, and upon reboot the system I am in glitched out. It loaded me up in front of the earth like world (first I have found since GP wipe, and also not scanned by PC). I had scanned 10 minutes and 3 scans prior. It acted like I hadn't scanned the system or any of the stuff prior to the game locking up. I scanned the world again and then notice one planet was showing up as a black spot... It was the only one that showed I had scanned it priory... I saved/exited and reloaded, and it did it again. System showed up not scanned, earth world not scanned... I checked a system I hit hours ago I wrote down cause it had a black hole... It showed I had scanned the system and the black hole but not the other 2 stars in the system. I checked the last system I visited and it showed from the galaxy map I had scanned it but from the system view it looked like I didn't scan anything. I saved and exited to menu, signed out and turned off Xbox, reset modum and tried again... The explorer data is still all whacked out... Hoping it will fix itself over night cause I'm going to be highly annoyed if I lost 5 hours of exploration data -.-

I really don't want to be wasting a bunch of time and effort out in BFE if the server is suffering from narcolepsy and amnesia...

It certainly seems there's a few issues with the exploration data atm. Until it's resolved I think I'll pass on surface scanning and use the time gained to travel somewhere remote.
