Discovered new signal source

I got a dozen or more HGEs for Imperial Shielding just the other day (not all at once). Sometimes I would hit 3 or 4 in a row. Since they are persistent now, I just scan everything and pick what I want.

No such luck though with some other G5 mats.

I had a session today, thought I'd go looking for PIs, seeing as lots of folk are struggling for these.
Not one. Not one HGE.
So I went to a Guardian site and blew up some priceless alien archeology. Which was nice.

I can smell a reason for spacelegs! 😁

Forget the HGE, go to station, craft simple tier manufactured materials out of raw materials and refine the manufactures materials to higher tiers!

I started board hopping instead and while I’m not sure yet...it’s looking like uss’s might be persistent.

Anyone know if that may be?

My understanding is that they are now persistent, yes. In many ways that's a good thing - I've lost count of the number of times I've been within spitting distance of an interesting USS, only to be interdicted. Now, when I jump back to SC, the USS will still be there.

Mind you (and off on a slight tangent here): what's the deal with Combat Aftermath USSs? They used to be great for certain mats, now all I get is either a completely empty instance (bar the usual floating wreckage) or I'm told to scan a dead Anaconda and get a slight rep increase...or something? Maybe? Dunno.

It's the usual story: Someone in charge of that aspect of development got a wild hair of an idea about how to "make them better." So they took something that was useful (if not fun), got half way down the path toward making them "more fun," then either got canceled or distracted, abandoned the project, and in so doing left that aspect of the game's content utterly useless.

Then they justified it by saying, "Bah, nobody needs to collect those mid-tier mats any more; they can just get them by using the egregiously bad trading ratios at a material trader. Problem solved!"

@OP: It's obviously a bug. There has always been a problem with these messages, especially at higher SC speeds ("Discovered USS" notification appearing without any sign of USS's on the scanner's list), but with 3.0 this issue became significantly worse (the USS used to show up eventually, which sometimes is never happening now).

Where the anomaly lies is that you get the message indicating the FSS picked up a new signal source out there in the system, somewhere. But you cannot see it in your navigation/target panel unless they're within range (~1000ls?) without having gotten a (new) scan of the navigation beacon OR actually going into the FSS, at which point you SHOULD be able to find that new source if you search the entire system (again). Not finding one could mean that you're missing it?

Yep, this my understanding of how it is currently working(ish).

Well, I raised a feature request a few weeks ago asking for the mat trading rates to be reduced, and only 1 cmdr responded saying they were fine as they were, so guess that won't even register on frontier's radar.
