Discovering New Systems and Planets - Help Please

Discovering and Scanning New Systems and Planets - Help Please

Ok i don't know if i'm missing something (me doing something stupid or not understanding), I have come across two systems that when looking at the system map shows no one has found it.

The first one showed that the main stars had been scanned but some planets had been missed (BD+3 2338) the ice planets on the second row down showed no one discovering them.

The second was DJUHTI which showed the whole system wasn't discovered now I was very excited and rushed to get the distance needed to drop it in for payment.

Now it didn't tell me that i was the first to discoverer it and it still shows no one discovering it.

So what am i missing ? Am i not understanding the rules for discovery or is there a bug and someone else had already discovered them but it did not show up for me?

If these are in the midst of inhabited space then chances are it is just still bugged (although I thought the last patch was supposed to clear this).

The tag is just misleading, because it's not the first one to "discover" a celestial but the first one to scan it. You did that, right?
Otherwise the celestial objects will still show no "discovered by" tag, they have to be surface scanned.

Sorry yes i also scanned these systems and planets.

Did you ticket it?

No I haven't as I wasn't sure if i was doing something wrong. Also how do I raise a ticket?

Ok so I have another System which stated it was totally undiscovered LP 560-66. Then turned it it and nothing saying discovered first. It is still not showing who did find it first?

You scanned it and then sold the data to Universal Cartographics right? "First discovered" is actually "first person to scan and sell the data"

If it was a named system - DJUHTI - odds are it's not eligible for discovery. There's no 'Discovered by' marking because it's one of the general knowledge systems. Like, when you're flying around Lave or Leesti, there are no 'Discovered by' markings.

whats confusing me is that i have to scan to find the planets then surface scan them. There are similar systems that have other peoples names to them.

Whats the rule of thumb to get first discovery I know you have to sell it. I always check to see if someone else has found the system first.

There should be, of course. They should have been discovered by Bell, Braben, Jameson, etc., rather than us. Otherwise it just looks daft. And leads to threads like this.

There have been issues of people first discovering systems but do not have their name on it. Chances are... the system might have been discovered by someone else already too. You have a better chance if you are 500 LY from the nearest inhabit planet. Can't guarantee those systems are not bugged too. though.

No I agree in what your saying that but it doesn't make sense the systems i've jumped into say they are undiscovered unless i scan for both planets then do a surface scan.

I'm going to go out further and see if it changes for me. Hopefully it will.

I posted this thread so i could ask for help and if anyone else had come across this issue. If you don't ask you don't know.

Besides the first system i came across had half of it discovered by someone but the rest had not so I scanned the rest. Now either it hadn't registered the other persons details on the rest of the planets or I scanned them and it didn't register me.

Something is going on though.
