discovering the T9

so ... after lots of years i bought a t9 and a t10 yesterday, just for the kicks, flew the stock versions around the station a bit ... clunky pieces of scrap ... not really sure what to make with them. i've never been into trading or hauling. the t10 looks like it has some interesting punch but ... that spoiler ... ugh! and the sounds aren't much my thing either ...

then i decided to give a go to the hungry marlinists cg, ferry them some grain and fruits and veggies, poor sods.
so i assembled a quick and dirty stock (solo) build for the t9 and off i went:

i have to say i had loads of fun just hauling stuff, getting interdicted in that thing, being unable to beat the interdiction and spamming a load of packhounds into the canopy of a poor adder. but most striking of all i did about 6 trips and ended actually enjoying a lot how the t9 flies. yes, it is a brick, it turns like a brick, but it somehow has a grace of movement i didn't expect nor can't really explain, but want to keep experiencing. specially in fa-off. i think i can love this ship.

long live the t9!

The Ts are an acquired taste. I gave up after trying to love a T7, but in the end it was a short affair and not a pleasant one, left her at a trade-in lot, no regrets.

Acquired a snake, she was a charmer, who constricted my heart, Python love. Still around but has company.

Some ships you keep regardless of what they are. Luck with the Ts.

Got 3 and a T10, 2 of the T9's are miners, one for metal and the other for icy rings, the other is used occasionally for trading.

You got to learn how to fly them:)

I used one for a long time doing supply runs into stations under repair, keeping an eye on the mission boards and collecting a few wanted supplies as well as what was wanted for the actual station repair, never took the missions unless I had already got what was wanted in my hold. ranked up completely with both that way.

Most of the time I did not bother with weapons, at first I lost a couple of interdictions but with practice it soon became relatively easy to beat them, the only times I lost after that was when a star got in the way and the NPC was thrown out of the instance.

My miners are in use on a regular basis, both for mining and close range exploration from my carrier, I only switch to an asp if I need to land somewhere.

Cutter, Python or Mamba are now used when doing a bit of high value trading, got to build up my combat skills somewhere and a T9 is not the best for that😒

Depends if you want to feel that your ship handles like what it’s size claims to be in lore.

If you don’t value this they may be a hard sell sure.

And even then you need to stick to d rated thrusters at best.

I like the T9 too. Yeah it flies like a brick, but it does what I want.
I have a bog standard T9 with no engineering. All of the hardpoints are used for mining equipment, except for the one on top which is a turret beam laser. It is used mainly for mining but also deep space exploring.
My only other ship is an Alliance Challenger. Again, no engineering and it's used for other aspects of the game.

The buff that made its cargo hauling comparable to the cutter was a much welcome one that helps with it remaining useful.

However, after using it for years and taking my sweet time finally getting a cutter this week (not doing any of those rank grinds), I'm not going back to the T9 ever again.

I'm grateful for all its done, but since I can get the same cargo output with a bit more agility and not taking what feels like years to leave the mass lock of stations, it deserves to finally rest.

I have one T-9 for a specific task at one station.
The cutter couldn't do it any better.
The T-9 couldn't do the one task I use the cutter for.
VIVA La Difference. :)

T9 shame on me, module storage. Shes a blank unamed hulk.
I've never considered her as part of my fleet. All mine are engineered to specific roles. I already have a miner and a hauler.
So I ask any avid T9 fans what could l do to this beast now im no longer overloaded with modules?

dunno ... space trucking? i'm loving it so far.
the thing really feels like there are several thousand tons behind your back. give it a spin! :)

yesterday i tried brushing up a planet on station approach in sc like i usually do, just so, i was well aware it was going to be very close but that moment you realize that your ship isn't going to turn at all and all that is left to do is sit back and enjoy while you smash like a meteorite into the exclusion zone ... precious. XDDD planet braking with this is an entirely different thing, needs a lot of planing ahead.

plus have you seen the cockpit? it's a full scale shop window.

And even then you need to stick to d rated thrusters at best.

any reason in particular?
i already made them a7 dirty, it's the only engineered module it has for now 😅

Indeed, it flies nicely and i really like the way the T9 handles.

Sure it's really slow, but it has the decency to go where you point it. No ifs no buts and no drifting. And compared to the Cutter, it actually has vertical thrusters...
However, trying to beat interdictions in it is a high wear process and it made me stop using it for regular haulage, the Cutter is a so much easy going ship (at both beating interdictions or submitting and waking out) - and i usually fly a 784t shieldless Cuter (solo of course)

CG = T9 for me. Mine has a range of around 35-40 ly which makes it useful for long distance hauling. Engineered a few items on it, fitted better thrusters which is a must imho, and now handles more like a rock as opposed to a brick. It does what it says on the tin. Have a second one set up for mining as well

After the T-9 got the cargo space buff, I dumped the Cutter (the only ship I ever truly hated flying) for a T-9 and never looked back. Unlike the Cutter, the T-9 is also slow to turn, but at least it's responsive to controls. It's the top heavy cargo mover, the best fleet carrier loader/unloader.

The T-10 is the top laser miner, and it's also excellent at farming bounties and manufactured materials at the same time in RES sites, with it's 4 large + 3 medium + 2 small hardpoints mowing down pirates with the cargo hatch open while collectors pick up all the spilled junk.

To make the ships as slow and unresponsive as possible. When i fly those things is to feel like sitting in something very large and bulky, not for gameplay maxxed efficiency.

Cutters are amazing on d rated thrusters, the vertical thrusters simply dont work if you have forward momentum outside the blue zone.

i see. you do have a point there.

on the other hand it's also nice to hurl that thing at nearly 300m/s towards something 😂

anyway, i'll test that some day. i did fly it with the stock e thrusters and ... yeah, see what you mean. maybe B grade could be even more appropriate (added weight, integrity, clunkyness and overall industrial ethos).

This last week or so I have got into trading in a big way with the unshielded T9 (788t cargo) / FC combo... Hauling 20kt of goodies per trip for around 450 to 500mil profit per FC load...

So yeah, I'm using it for more than storing Tritium now!
