Discovery Scanner Range?

WHEN FDev started building the Discovery Scanner into stock ships I understood the scanner would operate like the old Advanced Discovery Scanner, discovering every body in a system.
A player just posted the Discovery Scanner has a range of only 1000 LS. IIRC I regularly get results far in excess of that so please help clear this up.
Will the discovery scanner:
A) Discover every body in a system no matter how far the bodies are from the star or,
B) Discover every body only out to 1000 LS from a star?

Outdated info. Before the introduction of FSS, the Discovery Scanner used to be an equippable thing with 3 variants, 2 of them with limited range. Moder Discovery scanner has unlimited range, unless you are talking about identifying bodies without FSS scanning them, in which case you have to fly real close, like couple of LS.

Back when I started that was a pain, could only run with an intermediate when I started exploring.

Scanning with the FSS finds all bodies including additional vocalism in the system map. After scanning finding
POIs like ship crash sites and tourist beacons are displayed in the Nav panel when less than 1000ls from the
planet. The DSS using special missiles (unlimited) finds specific vocalism sites when very close to the planet.

As people have said - (A) is correct but to be precise it only "discovers" stellar bodies and other bodies within it's "passive detection range" (30ish ls). It only tells you how many bodies are in the system, you need to FSS the other bodies to actually "discover" them (or fly within 30ls).
