So, I'm thinking about to make Elite Dangerous more interesting because I love games like Mechwarrior online.
Its gameplay rules based on tabletop and to Equip the mechs, test them in the game is a lot of fun.
1. rebalance ships
All ships should have a fixed hull capacity in tonnes.
Each equipment weighs, if you build a bigger engine in the ship, you have less space for shields or cargo hold.
For a more fun in gameplay, small ships ever should be faster then larger.
To achieve this are bigger engine are always much heavier in relation to their performance.
The same should also apply to weapons.
2. weapon range/hardpoints
Weapons should have a different range similar to MWO, where bigger have more range and damage.
Because of the ships fixed hull capacity and that smaller weapons have a shorter range, it would be necessary with a small ship to engage a larger one in melee.
Each ship should have a capacity and type of hardpoints.
To explain, Adder has 1 large and 2 small at the moment. (2 + 2 x 1 = 4)
If you wish, you can have a class-4 gun on the roof installed, then the other hardpoints would be useless.
Hardpoints maybe could have also different types.
The Adder maybe have a fixt laser hardpoint on the roof, and 2 ballistic body hardpoint.
3. Ship variants
Different hull capacity. > Lighter is faster.
Different position of weapon hardpoints. > Maybe 2 on the roof?
Different capacity of hardpoints. > More means less hull capacity in tonnes.
Different type of hardpoints. > What mission i have to play to get this very very rare rocket Pyton as
reward.
