[DISCUSSION] E:D vs GTA Series

I know people, including myself where using GTA as an example in the thread regarding DUST (for EVE) and FPS within the Elite model.

I believe the ideas there were that many of us favoured a "GTA approach" vs a "Battlefield/Call of Duty" one for when we can get out of our shiny ships.

I have personally not read comments that say Elite is anyway like GTA in terms of it's core design, because it isn't. BUT there are large components of GTA that would potentially suit ELITE once the whole walking around becomes possible.

I don't want mass scale war conflicts on land turning Elite into an FPS with space travel, but the concept of doing a mission and then getting the hell out of there, does appeal.

Leg it to my ship, blast my way past the blockade waiting for me in space and hyperspace it the heck to safety. Yeah i can dig that and that therefore can lead to some of us quoting GTA as a reference point.

Yes GTA is not everyone's cup of tea, I have to say I struggle with it at times when I do infrequently play it, because being needlessly violent or bad isn't something that generally suits how I like to play games. To that end Piracy is unlikely to be my trade of choice in Elite, though i might dabble.

When you grow up with heroic tales as a kid, it's hard to want to be the bad guy sometimes he he.

Anyway, Elite is NOT GTA, thankfully, but there are parts of GTA that would benefit the planned future content of Elite in my view (especially NPC interactions and their convoluted sub plots).

I love story and I know Elite is likely to be a little light on that front other than the Fiction, but I hope some intriguing missions make it into Elite that are more than Do A, collect B reward.

I brought up GTA in the DUST thread.
I was referring to GTA's level of world interaction in that there are many many things to do other than the core gameplay of driving and shooting.
When we get the EVA expansion I'd like to seem a similar approach where there are many things to do when EVA rather than just walking around and looking at things as I think it would be a wasted opportunity if it was just that.

I did not say that E: D should be GTA in space. Just that one of the reasons for GTA's success (and $1 billiion in 3 days is a hell of a success) was the level of world interaction and if possible FD should seek to emulate that level of interactivity.
