Dismiss Ship - to Where?

I've been wondering, when we're roaming around on a planet and dismiss our ships, where do they go?
I've not put any effort into co-op trying to track a dismissed ship, but I wonder if anyone else has? Do they just pop up into orbit, or do they vanish into a pocket dimension?

Lore wise they go into high orbit. In reality they disappear, although I had one bug out on me that stuck around. It eventually reached something 300 KM and stayed there straight up from where I dismissed it. Here you can see it over the horizon where I could still target it ...

I have ships listed at stations those ships haven't been at in months.

I noticed ages ago, when i was in an SRV that there was a ship icon on a system in the galaxy map that wasnt there before and when looking, it was the ship i had just dismissed.
Everytime i checked this in the future the station was always the last station i had docked at with that ship.

If its changed, its changed. but from my experiance thats where your ships go.

Maybe it was anticipating your bad SRV Driving skills and the inevitable REBUY screen......:D

It goes to a magical place known as 'elsewhere'...I tend not to overthink such trivial details and am a great believer in the quote 'out of sight out of mind'

So long as it comes when beckoned, it can go to disneyland fer all I care ^

It seemed so obvious to me that it went into high orbit. That was enough. The fact that it might actually vanish- Well so what? games often vanish away objects out of the Player`s sight. Makes sense as long as it`s realistically done and still logged. I think it works very well.

It flies into orbit and goes TARDIS.

Isn't this place full of tea-toting Brits?

It vanishes to keep the overhead of having to track it down and to prevent anyone (NPCs included) from doing anything to it without you being able to control things. No different than asking where someone goes in a traditional MMO when they "camp". They're asleep "somewhere", we don't go into details on that.

The ship marker shops where your last save is. If you die, that's where you go back to. It has nothing to do with dismissing a ship.

Ship disappears. Lore says it's in high orbit, but it vanishes from the instance until you call it back. This stops anyone from shooting up your ship while you are not in it.

This is largely what I thought, I just wanted to be sure.
I suspect ships will also disappear to this same nether-realm when we join multi-crew sessions.
