The offices of both the Emperor of Achenar and the President of the Federation are experiencing trouble this week as billions of citizens are protesting their political influence from Kamadhenu and Nanomam, respectively. While just under eight billion people are disgusted with the Shield of Justice's failure to protect them, over twenty-one billion people are protesting the President's hardline patronising and military protection of their homes systems. Last week also saw the galaxy's leaders respond to the 'momentous discovery' in the Pleiades Sector: the Federation's President beat the drum of military preparedness, stoking superstitious and unfounded fear; Prime Minister Mahon called for philosophical unity across all of humanity, while the Emperor stated optimism for the future.
Just yesterday, the Admiral of the Fleet announced an increased presence in the Pleiades Sector, with a Majestic Interdictor in orbit directly over the mysterious alien wreckage. Zachary Hudson re-inforced Federal efforts to control all unknown artefacts in the Pleiades Sector by denouncing any Imperial attempt to prevent access to the site, just as Senators Torval and Patreus denounced the Federal blockade over the known sites of 'barnacles'.
In Imperial news, recent events are returning a widely loved noblewoman to the spotlight. Half a month ago, the Imperial Citizen published a scathing critique of vanished Senator Kahina Loren, lately of the highly disputed Prism system, and currently alleged to be Commander Salomé. Within twenty-four hours, the ISS thwarted an assassination attempt on Senator Patreus in Cemiess. Three days later, a member of the Chapterhouse of Inquisition received a distress call from Commander Salomé as she was surrounded and attacked by alleged Imperial vessels in Cemiess. Seven days ago, sources claimed that a high ranking Imperial was arrested in connection to the foiled assassination attempt. With only rumours and suspicion at hand, who knows what the tabloid, the Imperial Citizen, will claim?
This week, the Mu Koji system is a flashpoint of covert activity on behalf of the Imperial Navy. The Xuangu Crimson Major Network is coordinating the Imperial operations. Pilots are encouraged to use a chat server to coordinate their efforts with fellow commanders.
Pulling back from scandal and speculation, six systems and 7.7 billion people are currently unhappy with the level of protection they're receiving from the Shield of Justice. Half of these systems are well over 100 light years from Kamadhenu, while the others are a mixed bag in the cost and benefit analyses. Brave and determined last minute actions from the Shield of Justice's Logistics Division secured eleven systems from covert criminal undermining, reducing the damage of this organised attack on the Emperor's power base by 69%.
Additionally, special interest groups appeared to have secured their costly control systems against any potential criminal activity, also reducing the damage this covert undermining could have inflicted.
While there is damage to the Emperor's galactic standing, this current deficit presents an opportunity to focus on retainable systems and embrace the Shield of Justice's current capabilities and work on eradicating its weaknesses.
