Hardware & Technical Display Options Questions - FPS Question

Hi all, so in Display Options you have
Monitor Refresh Rate, I have a 144hz monitor and set to 144hz. I understand this part.

I'm confused on the Frame Rate Limit. Why does it say "hz" ? I thought frame rate is FPS and it would say 300 FPS or 144 FPS, not 300hz and 144hz. What am I missing here ?

Also I have never seen my FPS go above 144. It seems like the FPS is limited to 144. Seems locked at 144 a lot, even though I have set the Frame Rate Limit at None or 300. I can set Graphics to Low and it still does not go above 144 FPS. Does ED go above 144 FPS ?

Thanks

For all intents and purposes in the year 2016, monitor refresh rate and FPS are the same thing.

Err noo... having a background in computer sciences, I have to tell you it is not.

Refresh rate is how often the picture on your monitor is drawn (refreshed) in a second.

FPS is how many images (frames) the graphics card can draw in a second. This might be lower than the refresh rate of your monitor. Or higher, which leads to taering artifacts.

Of course ideally it would be the same.

Does ED go above 144 FPS ?
Not if your vertical synchronisation is turned on. But then... who needs more than 144 FPS...

Found a cool gif. :D I hope it works...

thanks guys,
I toggled VSync on and off and it goes very high FPS. VSync makes it looks lots better.
Game looks great. I was just wondering.

What Nvidia CP Settings do you all use for ED ?
You have it set for Max Performance ?
Do you have Anisotropic or Antialiasing enabled ?
Thanks

The only thing I've done in the nvidia settings for the Elite exe is to turn on vsync and turn it off in the game. This might seem weird but after much testing I found that doing it this way completely removed the vertical shearing I was seeing with TrackIR headlook down on planets.

One other caveat to this is that I discovered that the Oculus runtime service stopped this from working so, when I'm not using the Oculus but am playing on the monitor, I stop the OVRService (think that's what it's called).
