Display Panels still in the way (too high)

As discussed here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/291708-Display-Panels-in-VR-obstructing-view/page3?highlight=trackir%20menu

I know you can just use a command to toggle them on and off, but as a TrackIR user, I really liked looking down and using the menu. As they are now, it looks a bit silly, and in the way. Just curious if this was moved to an option somewhere and I'm not seeing it, or it's been decided to keep it like this. Not even sure why this was implemented in the first place.

Yeah same issue here, and ended up toggling on button instead as it was the only reliable way to have the panel pop without driving me nuts.

Personally, I would love a hold to show option. So keep display on look active, but that it would only work if I am holding down a button. That would simplify 4 button mappings down to one and still be pretty flexible (and eliminate those issues in VR or TrackIR).

Moving the panels would be a challenge I think. Even if you move them all down, I think they would still pop when not wanted (maybe its just my random head movement lol). And I am sure there is a balance that needs to be struck here for non head tracking users too.

I don't understand what is the issue..diagram? I use Facetracknoir and simply use the toggle keys for Panel to allow me to look around unobstructed, especially in SRV as my keyboard interferes with Panels whilst I steer. Different Ships have different locations of HUD.

Yeah using a toggle key is the best way atm, but the issue is that as you move your head the panels pop on and off rather easily because of the position of the panels, so tend to trigger when you do not want them too. OP is suggesting moving them to improve this.
