Dissapointment

I pledged to elite dangerous under the assumption that i would eventually be able to land on planets i didn't realize in order to do this i will have to fork out more cash i got the impression that it would be tacked on later as a free download, from the forum on the kick-starter page whilst chatting to Braben.
I know money has to be made but don't charge for the ability to land when that clearly completes the game. 8(

Your assumption was wrong and it was quite clearly stated on the Kickstarter, and everywhere since, that planetary landings and EVA were both to be paid for expansions. There has been no misinformation on this from Frontier, and no ambiguity.

Your "research" was flawed! ;)

I would bite down the disappointment and buy the £35 expansion pass now before it is withdrawn. The games ongoing funding requires paid expansions released at intervals. The expansion pass gives you them all for one payment. I imagine this will be withdrawn closer to release.

that'll teach you to assume things ... (asume ... makes an 'as' out of 'u' & 'me' ) :D i love that saying lol.

The ability to land on planets is not the end game in Elite D, it is a planned expansion due for release some time after the release of Elite D itself.

There is an expansion pass you can buy if you wish, that will enable you to download any and all future expansion's. it costs £35.00.

I'm also disappointed there's no planetary landings, but... I knew that coming in. And looking forward to it when it comes out.

I'm disappointed that there appear to be quite a few people who are willing to shell out their cash on a whim without taking the necessary time to ascertain what they are actually purchasing.

It is even more disappointing when some of these people imply they are victims as opposed to being fully responsible for their predicament.

Wow... you're a jack booted thug! Oh wait...

Quite frankly since the Kickstarter in 2012, Frontier has always been clear in its proposals. It is still not very complicated to obtain information by reading.

erm.... wait a minute. that is exactly what i did in november 2012.... shelled out 200 quid to back a game. sight unseen and no research. very happy that i did. now i wait for the next phase of alpha, what a predicament!

I wouldn't make a habit of doing that as you will get burned.

No where has it been stated (that I have seen) that planetary landing would be a paid for expansion. Show me a link to a statement that clearly says this.

Yes it was said it would be added later, and there has also been no indication that you wont have to pay for it either, but still...

i think it was said during kickstarter that a given level of backing would give free access to the game but that later expansions would be paid for. a higher level of backing would give free access and later expansions gratis.

you dare critizizise grorious developpment plan?
you dare critizizise grorious pricing policey?

ding dong BANNU I say!

End of rine!

It's right there on the kickstarter!?!

The initial release of Elite: Dangerous doesn't mark the end of development. We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features. A good example of this is planetary landings. We have an ambitious goal for landings to include new gameplay and a rich variety of worlds to explore.
[...]
The main reason for treating these as expansions is so we can approach these with the proper development resources that we require to do them well. We don't plan or desire to just tick a box, we want to make these additions something significant.
[...]
Really big expansions are likely to be paid for while we also intend for some smaller free updates. If you have pledged to to £80 tier or above you will receive all expansions for free.

It's also literally the very first thing talked about in the development plan.

I would happily collate this information, however I am unaware of threads you have seen.

If you could list all the threads you have seen, we can try and find anything you missed.

Its a shame, though I was aware of the charged for updates, when I made my backing pledge, so I couldn't complain.. you pick what you can afford and remember the game part is the fly-y shooty bit with the selly stuff. The rest is eye candy... and we don't know the cost of the updates.. You could buy £35 pass, and then the updates could be cheaper, so without the information you have to make a choice and accept that joining early in development is a risk. And sometimes you win.. and sometimes sadly you miss out.

I hope that more of the disgruntled can put their disappointments aside and start to enjoy the game without too much embitterment.

It is afterall KICK ASS!! And you helped make it happen...

I do feel sympathy for Simo3583. When the Kickstarter was first announced there was a buzz about the ability to land on planets. But a Kickstarter campaign is not a preorder and there can be changes to the objective before it finishes.

David Braben reined in the ambitions of the project but he made his justifications clear:-

With any Kickstarter, if you don't like the way the campaign is going there's an easy opportunity to take back your pledge before the campaign finishes. Simo3583, if you've got any ongoing Kickstarter campaigns at the moment I suggest you go take a look and check to see if they're progressing to your satisfaction.

I just don't understand how any Elite fan can be dissapointed in any way about what is happening here. Stop being so "entitled" and egoistic.

Instead look forward to the new adventure it will be, when you can finally embark on a new epic journey into the vast galaxy of the Milky Way, with this great update to the old Elite franchise.
