Newcomer / Intro Distance on Fuel question

In the Navigation Panel when you select a destination it shows the distance you can go on amount of fuel you have as two numbers "6.96 (7.79)" for example.

My question is which number is the distance your plot plan requires you to travel and which one is the distance you can go on your current fuel load?

The number in parenthesis is the jump range with the dry weight of your ship (no cargo no fuel). The number before it is the jump range with your current load.

The route planner uses your current weight when on the fastest route setting.

If you see a dotted line on the galaxy map it means that you wouldn't have enough fuel to complete the jump at that point. This allows you to check out the stars on your route to see if they're scoopable or not (KGB FOAM are scoopable stars).
