Just for a bit of fun...

Those of you on the Distant Worlds Expedition that have visited some of the various basecamps along the way, please vote for your favorite 3 (and feel free to state what made them special to you if you like).

I've deliberately left basecamp 23 (Darwin's Legacy) off the list as I thought it'd get the most votes by default just for being the final one (plus we're not officially there yet anyway! :D).

As a reminder, here are the basecamp guides :

Basecamp 9 Guide : Mt. Hillary - The Athaip Wisteria Nebula

The landing zone at basecamp 9 is slightly different to those that have come before it. Instead of a single camp, this LZ is split into several mini-plateaus separated by small ravines. Each plateau should have room for several ships to safely land there. SRV excursions to other parts of the LZ will require drivers to make small 'hops' across the shallow ravines. The basecamp sits at the foot of a small mountain ridge (Mt. Hillary).

I havent really had a fav three so I'll just turn the thread negative and vote for my least favourite one: Waypoint 5
All my bad memories of exploration have come from there :p

Although, saying that I did love Laikas rest

WP5, Drake's Ridge, was actually one of my favorites. It was a weird place full of strange noises and thick green mist... what more could you want? :D

(Plus we had a spectacular crash there)

Camera captures incident at Drake's Ridge...

My favorite ones were 5 Drake's Ridge (gotta love the mist and strangeness), 12 Altum Sagittarii (view of the galaxy) and 22 Desolation Ridge (the eerie feeling and sense of remoteness, also the view of the galaxy).

For the record, mine were;

Drakes Ridge - it was weird, and green. And there was defiantly something down in that crater that didn't like us being there.
Camp Baatuta - very serene and tranquil, a perpetual twilight of blue and purple thanks to the Omega Nebula... and I got some great video there too.
Gagarin's Reach - that view of the galaxy from the cliff edge, spectacular!

I have to admit, most of them have sort of melded into one because of their blandness (due to matchmaking server issues, not Commanders!). But a few stick out because of the nearby mountains / canyons / {insert SRV suicidal situation here}.

How I still have 4 SRV's left is anyone's guess!

Anyways, votes cast :)

Creae Caultron, for those spectacular purple craters and the incredible view they gave (and how fun they were to make a semi controlled chaotic descent down).

Gagarin's Reach for those incredible views of the galaxy, and the feel of being up so much higher above than I'd ever taken a ship before.

Third is the Shackleton Plateau, as the time I spent trying to get out of that wonderful/awful canyon after missing the jump was very memorable indeed :D.

(I had to try and vote based on views and features in the end, as the moment I went down the rabbit hole of the memories associated with the meetups I wanted to vote for three quarters of the damn list :p.)

This poll is a little unfair since it is restricted to 3 basecamps. (Who has decided this? [mad])
Constrained by this, my favs are the followings : :p

Basecamp 11 : Armstrong Landing - Sagittarius A*
Basecamp 14 : Chrea Cauldron - The Dryao Chrea Stellar Remnant
Basecamp 16 Guide : The Mound - The Green Crystal

I've probably only voted for "Chrea Cauldron" because I was so surprised by this Merlin&Princess-World, which seems to come direcly from the Disney World Top Studios, that I was speechless for while.
I never thought this were possible in ED.
I hadn't caught up with the fleet at this point, so I was not there for a long time. Maybe this sugar world will be getting on my nerves after a while, I don't know. :D

Base Camp 5 : Drake's Ridge - NGC 6357 could be a fav, but since I had visited this camp weeks after the main fleet, it has shown a different appearence to me.
It was nice and beautiful, but not in my top 3. The greenish dust was gone completely. :(

Here is a proof that I was landing actually at the right coordinates :

Has to be Drakes Ridge, just because the place was so god damned weird and spooky. For a planet without an atmosphere it sure had a spooky presence. Just think what planets with an atmosphere could be like.
