[Distant Worlds] Be right back!

I'm sure we're all pretty excited about being on our way to Beagle Point, I know I am. But for some reason or another; "doh!, srv exploded again" moments, "I really didn't need that 120t fuel tank!", "hmm, need more ammo", "this ship ain't gonna make it, I'm gonna change it", the need may arise for a quick trip back to the bubble for whatever reason.

My first trip back to the bubble was planned. Well almost. I initially started out thinking that I would take StarGazer all the way from Pallaeni to Beagle Point, but after the 1.5 Ships update, I was fortunate enough to be able to buy the Imperial Cutter. And what a ship! beautiful, massively big, enormous cargo hold. The more pictures I took, the more I wanted to take TordenSkjold on the trip. But, alas, the limited jump range put an effective stop to this idea. I still wanted to have TordenSkjold in the images and videos from the departure, I mean who wouldn't?

So this was the plan: Start out with TordenSkjold, take him to Shapley 1 and then double-back to Pratchett's Disc, do a quick swop for StarGazer, my most valued Anaconda, and head back out. It was hard, really hard mind you, TordenSkjold grew on me the more time I spent flying him. But in the end, the limited jump range of TordenSkjold persuaded me to go through with the plan.

So currently, I'm flying StarGazer, taking him to Beagle Point...:)

Feel free to post your own BRB stories, I know I'm gonna have more than this planned trip back, I expect at least one unplanned trip back to the bubble.

TordenSkjold (parked at Pratchett's Disc for the duration, gonna miss you on all the pictures and videos)

TL;DR: Post your BRB story/stories here.

Was so tempted to take a fully armed FDL to Shapely 1. Because of the heat tolerance, I can do 1000 LY in a 'brief' 83 minutes, even with a 13LY range and an undersized scoop. But sanity won over. Did a compromise with a 'combat' spec Asp at 27LY range and can now cover 1000 LY in 30 min. A more sane figure for a 130,000 LY voyage ;)

Here's my short OCD story:

Arrived and landed at Laika's Rest with no issues (other than the usual game crashing and landing glitches). Flew around the crater a bit, then decided to go and check out Shapley 1, come back to Waypoint 1 and went in too fast and emergency dropped from orbital cruise. Ended up taking 2% damage to my hull. How could that be on the first part of the trip! Couldn't stand seeing my hull at 98% so early so since I had the spare time, decided to go back and repair. 54 jumps later (27 each way), I'm back at Laika's Rest ready for the next part of the trip.

I know, OCD. Wouldn't have done it, but in the end I said "screw it" and did it. Won't be doing that after departing Laika's Rest...

Not much of a story, but...

Had a base spawn 500m away. Went to clear it out. Turned out there were big defence turrets, and my hull was down to less than 50% before I knew it...

With a 90-odd jump round trip for repair, its needless to say I may avoid picking fights with the environment in the future - or I'll bring longer range guns. One or the other.

Yesterday i arrived to the 1st waypoint. But today i was awarded a bobblehead for the logo competition. So i quickly went back to the bubble, equipped the bobblehead and returned to waypoint 1 in a wobbly, bobbly cockpit.

Too much Lavian Brandy during the beginning of expedition and once i reached Laika's Rest i entered so fast that my FSD malfunctioned and found myself in orbit with damage on all modules and some missing hull plates.
Got back to Pratchet's Disk for repairs and now i am going back to Laika's Rest but i am taking a slight turn to get there.
Will catch you guys probably tomorrow.

My controller dropped off the desk, while I was in the kitchen making a snack, and landed on the trigger somehow and went through all my heat sink ammo. I'm still carrying on, but the feeling that I'm so going to regret it is getting more nagging every jump.

Oh damn it. Now I can't stop thinking about turning around.

I'm turning around :(.

I set course for the first way point, just as I was about to jump from Pallaeni I was interdicted. I always submit then either boost away or fight. This time it was a Master in a Side, fortunately I have kept my weapons load out so quickly killed him. Couldn't then be bothered to claim the bounty so jumped. At the 2nd or 3rd system on the way I wasn't paying attention and did an emergency stop too close to the sun. I then decided to jump back to Pallaeni, get fixed and claim the bounty.

I'm looking around and seeing that I'm flying an Asp in a sea of Asps and am debating going back and switching to another ship just to stand out from the crowd. Maybe a T6, but that would require finding a stack of Jumponium mats.

it happened to me too, a rushed landing and got 2% out of my hull, I'm still debating if I should go back or just suck it up and keep moving forward. I'm still at Fine Ring, if anyone knows if theres a station/outpost near by so I can go and fix my ship, please let me know, I'll really appreciate it. 1 more question, can somebody tell me whats the next stop from Fine Ring?

Thought hard about which ship and whether to take weapons, decided a 4 srv asp would do me just fine. If I see danger approaching I can hide behind ziljypoo :D

Go on (go on, go on, go on) try a T-6 you won't regret it. I have 292 jumponium components but only for emergencies.

Flying happily - as one of only a brave few - in my T-6E

I was showing ED to a friend...

First I was sane and let her fly the tutorials, but later she wanted to see something of the real game. So here I was in my Asp showing of cool stunts. One crazy ass flight assist off flying backwards maneuver later, my ships remains were evenly spread on a rocky cliff near Shapley 1 :D

I guess it is wise to switch to class 6 shields now. Horizons is to most dangerous thing, that could happen to explorers...

On approach to waypoint zero I used my std procedure, get to about the right coords go vertical and fine tune once in normal space. Only this time I somehow had too much speed 2% hull lost before I even got to WP0.

Once at WP0 playing around in the SRV, getting a bit excited, hull down to 47%, no problem. One big jump later bang.

So 2% hull and one SRV down before we even left WP0, currently at WP1 but feeling a quick trip back may be necessary...

Edit: in other news today I discovered icy moons are slippery, hopefully this won't cause me any problems...

Pratchett's Disc is ~640Ly from Fine Ring. Next stop Lagoon Nebula (fleet departing for wp 2 on sunday)
Edit: These stories are better than I ever imagined, and I can imagine a lot :)

I wanted to test the Improbable Puffin, so went up and down between Pallaeni and Shapley 1 earlier in the week. So I made a quick BRB that night, before DW started. Then I made the official trip again last night.
This night I've continued on in the direction of the Lagoon Nebula.

That big hill in the middle of the crater at Likes Rest,,, I rolled down that out of control on my SRV and had to go back and get a new one. ☺ version 2 should hopefully Last a bit longer.

I'm doing it. Now flying the Free Trader Beowolf. 27 ly base jump range, 24 ly with a full 32 t load. Already have enough mats to get there (though not back unless I jettison all my cargo) but I figure I've got time to do some planetary exploration.

Actually like this better than my Asp build because I've got two SRVs and a bigger cargo bay. Of course, now my entry in the roster is wrong, but I'll worry about that once I get to Beagle Point.

Let's do this!
