DISTANT WORLDS - Graveyard Thread

Hello CMDRs,

Been thinking about a thread like this for some time now. We all now that casualties have happened and will happen later on. Too fast on the descent, hit boost when you shouldn't have and the more common SRV death. Some of the people on the list have already dropped out and we would like to know who, how and maybe even why (not if you don't want to).

Please no bashing other CMDRs on this thread for their decision, we all knew it would happen along the way. Sadly not everyone will make it to Beagle Point and everyone has the right to do whatever they want regarding this matter of going back and dropping out of the expedition. So please feel free to share your story on this thread. If we met you along the way be certain that we had fun flying by your side and we will hold a minute of comms silence for you when we get to Beagle Point. :)

I'll add mine. The Zombie Wasp III, my ship died when I fell asleep without logging out of the game.

It had died via the slowest way possible, heat in supercruise.
As modules began to boil, I was still fast asleep. I didn't hear anything about it until I checked the screen. My ship was lost. I did return but I did lose my ship.
This happened enroute from WP4 to WP5 on a tuesday.

Glad you were able to make it back. It would have been ugly crossing the galaxy without a decent radio station :)

I suffered a loss of an SRV earlier this week due to the exploding bug, so I was able to ticket it, get warped back to a station, restock, and get warped back to my last position. This took 2 days.

Since I was 2 days behind everyone, I piled on the hours today. 1 hour before work this morning. 1 hour at lunch. 5 hours this evening. After covering the distance, I arrived at WP07 just after midnight and say hello to the assembled Cmdrs.
I take out one of my new shiny restocked SRVS and take a circle around the Cmdrs, scanning their ships to see who is who. Once I finished, I went to head towards a mesosiderite. I got perhaps 100m before I clipped a stone, flipped up into the air and BAM! SRV gone before I even hit the ground! I was beyond annoyed. 2 days waiting + 7 hours today (which I didn't really have to spare) all to get blown up again within moments of touching down.

I can't use profanity on this forum, but the nice way of saying what I was thinking was "To hell with this..."
So I restarted back in my Clipper in low orbit, went to the right menu, self destruct, bye bye.
Reappeared back at Hill Dock in Tsakhmet, then used 3 premium FSD Injections to get to Shinrarta Dezhra.
I will NOT be rejoining the expedition. I am out.

This exploding SRV bug really is the last straw that broke the camel's back for me. Losing the exploration data was no big deal because I already have Explorer Elite, and I don't need the money.

I have been thinking of starting a DW deadpool thread for a while... Though making use of the tables created by Erimus to put "x's" next to CMDR's that have droppe dout, with a reason and system beside...

Kinda needs some sort of table or database for it to be properly useable, I think.

Was never officially in DW but I did have a plan to meet you guys at the core. Lack of internet for 3 weeks has ruined that plan so I guess I'm unofficially a casualty even if it was only a rough plan in the first place.

Journey Map.jpg

Unfortunatly I've only progressed another ~15,000Ly along from the location on the above picture and haven't made the turn towards the core yet. It seems by the time I get there the DW will already be past the core and heading to Beagle point. :(

Personally, I'm not a fan of the idea...because of this question: How many people are just going to crash the party at the end, but not actually participate in the expedition?

There's already going to be an official history of the people who made it to the BP@BP (that's Big Party at Beagle Point); anyone not on that list obviously didn't make it. Creating an official list of "These poor souls didn't make it, because..." feels like adding salt to an open wound. If the history isn't going to care how someone made it to the party, why care about the reasons for not making it?

The expedition isn't a competition, it's a cooperative effort; and there are even rules in place to make sure that it's a cooperative effort. So let's maybe avoid the whole judgemental, "This Group is Better/Worse than That Group" segregation of fleet members.

I saw it from my cockpit. Zenith SRV was driving really slow, then immediatly flipped in mid air and exploded before touching down. 100% bug, 0% Zenith fault. I'm very sorry and would be bothered too.
You can ask yet to be teleported back another time, but I can see the immersion breaking and the frustation.
I'm left with one SRV, the other one was lost for my fault and not a bug, but now I fear to deploy it everywhere, and for sure not deploing at waypoints where it's crowded.
In my opinion they'd save time in fixing the bug instead of teleporting back and forth dozens of players on a dayly basis. Let's hope.

To Zenith: stick with the comm channels, the various groups will go on even after the expedition and will wing for long times. Probably you'll catch me somewhere, RL is kicking in hard and i'm almost left with 5-6 hours to play per week.

If someone could show me how to create/maintain a table here with all the data on it I'll gladly do it :)

Completely understand what you're saying. The purpose of this thread is not to rub salt on open/bleeding wounds or to say X group is better than Y group. There will be stories told of how people made it, how difficult/challenging it was for them to plot the jumps to Beagle Point or through the core, near-death experiences and such. So why not take a look at the other side of the story, the casualties, we can all learn from these as well and sometimes they do make up for interesting perspectives of long journeys that come to an unexpected end.

You might catch up with the slower moving exploration fleet of cartorgraphers, if not the quicker one.

Thanks for the faith but I've got at least 25KLy before I make the turn to the core and then probably another 30-40kLy to the centre. I've not made it easy on myself too since I have a full-time job and want to complete the loop by 3.0 :p
