Distant Worlds - Poet and story tellers corner

There have been a few gems written by commanders since the start of Distant Worlds. Would be nice to keep the collection together here. Please feel free to add to the collection.

You Brave Explorers by Cmdr Cula-ta
You Brave Explorers, the ones who fly into the wake of giants, yet blaze your own trails.
Who seek to explore distant worlds, not for profit, but in the pursuit of knowledge.
You who await launch at Brook's Point, Pallaeni, knowing many will fall undertaking such an endeavour.
Yet take off regardless, with hope in your heart in spite of the dangers before you.
You Brave Explorers, I salute you o7, each and every one.
May the journey seem swift, with scoopables at every jump.
And may you all find Beagles Point, or fail courageously trying.
You Brave Explorers.

Into the void by Freebird

I must go once more into the void
into the eternal night
A myriad dots in the quiet blackness
Cold and hard, diamond light.

Twinkle twinkle little star,
but not out here;
not where we are.
Here amongst the whispering spheres,
who's song's not meant for human ears
A siren's call, to a deadly embrace,
the last adventure,
an endless sleep

As the Crow Flies by Cmdr Cula-ta
A String of Commanders tore across the skies, all heading for base camp one. Little thought was given to their final destination.
Commander Ziggy Stardust joked 'Are we there yet'? Effectively summing up the lighthearted mood of the fleet.
Over the comms a young commander could be heard screaming '1/65th boys, 1/65th' To which many whoop whoops could be heard.
A sage confident voice cut through the cheers, 'As the crow flies commanders, as the crow flies'.

Take-off from base camp one was somewhat subdued after news filtered through an hour before take-off that Cmdr Rikk had downed his ship attempting to land on a 3g world.
The sage Commander from earlier came across the comms '1/130th boys, 1/130th, suit-up, buckle-up we're explorers. We don't follow crows'.

Why do we explore?

Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing!
Why do we explore?
Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Score!

An Icy Moon with deep dark canyons, racing inches above the floor
Jump, Honk, Check, Score! That's why we explore.

Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Score!
Gassy Giants, two tone brown, 10,000ls cruise around, undiscovered ammonia life.
Jump, Honk, Check, Score! That's why we explore

Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Score!
Metal Rich, volcanic flumes, premium Jumponium, buggy racing, time to zoom.
Jump, Honk, Check, Score! That's why we explore

Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Score!
Water World with carbon life, terra-forma, that's just nice.
Jump, Honk, Check, Score! That's why we explore

Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Score!
Ammonia World, distant sun, 20 minutes of flying done!
Jump, Honk, Check, Score! That's why we explore

Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing!
Holy Grail still not found, Earth-like World with rings around.
Jump, Honk, Check, Nothing! But that's why we explore.

Its not a poem but close enough..

"Hello"

Hello, it's Thargoids
We were wondering if after all these years you'd like to fight
To fight over galaxy
They say that war is supposed to kill ya
But we ain't done much killing

Hello, can you hear us?
We're in California Nebula thinking about who we used to be
When we were stronger and free
We've forgotten how it felt when the world fell at our feet

There's such a difference between us
And a million miles

Hello from the hiding site
We must have lost a thousand barnacles
To give you something for everyone to find
But when we call you never seem to hear
Hello from planetside
At least we can say that we tried
To tell you we're sorry for waging a war
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't frighten you anymore

Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of us to talk about ourselves. We're sorry
We hope that you're going to die
Did you ever make it out of that bubbke where nothing ever happened?

And it's no secret that the all of us
Are running out of time

Hello from the hiding site
We must have lost a thousand barnacles
To give you something for everyone to find
But when we call you never seem to hear
Hello from planetside
At least we can say that we tried
To tell you we're sorry for waging a war
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't frighten you anymore

[4x:]
(Highs, highs, highs, highs,
Lows, lows, lows, lows)
Anymore

Hello from the hiding site
We must have lost a thousand barnacles
To give you something for everyone to find
But when we call you never seem to hear
Hello from planetside
At least we can say that we tried
To tell you we're sorry for waging a war
But it don't matter. It clearly doesn't frighten you anymore

Brave Explorers, you've flown into the wake of giants, and now await at a crossroads.
Civilized space at your backs and the void stretching before you.
The time for stunts has passed, now is the time to earn your wings.

Undiscovered distant worlds with unique vistas never seen by human eyes await.
Neutron Stars, black holes, space madness and fatigue are your new enemies.
Know them and treat them with respect in equal measure and you might just find Beagle Point.

The gauntlet has been cast, will you take up the challenge and make that first leap into legend?
To carve your name in stone alongside the greatest of explorers.
For those that take up the gauntlet and accept the challenge. I salute o7

One I wrote earlier:

HIP 3566.

By my honk shall you know me.
By my scoop, my scan and counting down.
By friendship short, and leaving soon.
And with my going, silence.
Unheard amongst the roaring of the stars.

"Poor Lonesome Pioneer"

I'm a poor lonesome pioneer ...
I'm a long long way from home
And this poor lonesome pioneer
Has got a long long way to roam
Over mountains over valleys
From dawn till day is done
My ship and me keep riding
Into the setting suns

Do you get the reference ? Hint below.
This SRV shoots faster than its own shadow ;)

I love this:

I dug a hole so I could see

a piece of earth unviewed.

I climbed up high and breathed in deep

and hoped that air was new.

I wrote a song so wild and free

which none had heard before.

And when I swim, my eyes are wide,

they sting to see new shores.

In the snow, my feet are first

to step out through the door.

And sometimes I can dream a world

where none have been before

Dear explorers who made it out of the bubble
Lets hope your ship dont turn into rubble

We still have many places to explore
Theres also space after the core

I saw this one crashed Asp
It made me gasp

Be careful out there
Make note of my wish here

This poem makes no sense
I hope its not too dense

No Finer Men
They assembled with the Fleet at Pallaeni
The stars burning bright like their dreams and aspirations
Soon new wonders were seen and new planets discovered
Yet as the days turned into weeks there came a moment which they had long feared
When the true magnitude of their mission dawned upon them
Far they had travelled, yet there was still a good distance to go
And their destination, the fabled Beagles Point, was only the halfway mark
For those that push on past that point, glory and legend await,
For those who return, having failed in their attempt
Will they be considered lesser men?
No I say, for they dared to dream
After all, it is better to try and fail than to never try at all
So to all those who returned early from the Distant Worlds mission, know this
Beagle Point awaits you, you felt it's call and one day you will answer that call
For you dared to dream and to me
There are no finer men

Where We Have Been

Tales have been said,
Of a fleet once here, whence left into the night.
Of a thousand ships, so bold and bright,
Whose commanders had no fear.

Of these brave souls, I am but one
As many as the rest.
But things I've seen, and the things we've done,
is nothing but the best.

Of Distant Worlds and stars unseen,
the endeavour of all mankind,
You ask us now, "Where have you been?"
And We all reply in kind:

Together we left behind our home,
from Pallaeni did we launch.
A thousand ships to Shapley One,
whose commanders are so bold.

Onward then from there on out,
To a Lagoon among the stars.
There we raced through the Omega,
and onward still we flew,
to the nest of the great Eagle
and the pillars of creation we sailed through.

Ever onward to Drake's Ridge we went,
where some good souls had fell,
but carrying on the course we laid
we escaped from that green hell.

Through a Hollow Veil went we,
to a Forge of a million suns,
a gateway to the Core so vast
we still had only just begun.

A refuge found in the sky,
Four Earths did we pass,
together they were a blessed oasis
in a sky so dark and vast.

Clouds of blue and purple,
and skies of diamond shine,
formed the court of the great Majesty
Sagittarius A* god's divine.

A moment did we have out there,
53 and 101. These many ships together
set new records that they had won.

From there we climbed the ladder
to the ceiling did we go,
the Galaxy below us, and darkness above,
it was a spectacular show.

Through fields of stellar death we rode,
among them voids of black,
Wreaking havoc on our navigation,
much to our consternation.

Nebulas of Rose,
and Crystal Green,
and onward still we go,
towards one last Veil,
a Rendezvous, and beyond the Abyss unknown.

Ever onward do we fly,
still holding true our course.
Our determination to reach Beagle Point
is all but our driving force.

You ask us now, where we have been
and I tell you now this tale,
of the Greatest Journey man has made,
and one we will not fail.

Together we will finish,
or fail triumphantly in this task,
but for those who reach the final end,
in great Glory, ye, shall Bask.
