[Distant Worlds] Youtubers & Streamers Rally at Beagle Point

Content Creator Cup 3302

What's up everybody?

With all of the terrific content being generated by this expedition, I thought it might be fun to get all of the awesome content creators together for an epic rally race at Beagle Point.
It came to me in a dream.

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but most of the time when I'm playing, I tend to get caught up in trying to get the perfect shot of wherever I am and forget to just play the game. This is meant to be a chance to unwind and celebrate. Don't worry about lining up scenes and whatnot - I haven't met the majority of you and would love to do so. Put some names to voices and avatars.

EDIT:
So here are the race details so far.
Date: Sunday, April 10th
Time: 22:30 Gametime
Racers Confirmed: 10
Camera Ships:
Katejina

I am waiting on responses from a few CMDRs about participating, but would like to keep the instance to 20 or fewer participants for the sake of server stability and keeping rubberbanding at bay.
The location of the race will only be divulged to the participants for server/security reasons ;)

The event will be viewable from any of the camera ships' streams, and I hope you all can watch us make fools of ourselves and probably explode.

I'm in :D

I won't be arriving until Monday 4th at the earliest, as I'm away over that weekend. After that, time is very flexible for the rest of that week.

There are several events planned for Beagle Point week, including rally races, robot wars (something akin to SRV arena battles), endurance races, hunt the rogue SRV, and other stuff too that should contain some high octane footage for youtubers and streamers to film. Dr Kaii is looking for volunteers to help organize and run some events so please send him a PM about this one too Shab00ka... sounds fun :)

Sounds good, I'll get up with the Doc. I'll start a sign up page or something this evening and see if we can't get enough interest.

Alrighty, time needs changing due to the Championship SRV Race being at 20:00.

Anyone have preferences between 18:00 or 21-22:00?

Added the following event to the Beagle Point Week thread :

Sunday 10th April : Youtubers & Streamers Rally at Beagle Point

Sorry I can't make it Shabooka, sadly real life calls me so Distant Worlds ends for me after tonight's events. I'll try and keep up with the weekends final few events via the forums, and will be back next week to see all your videos of the rally! ;)

No worries, I can understand that. I'll rest easy knowing Kamzel is keeping Beagle Point warm for us :)

We are moving the event time one last time due to scheduling issues - it's now 21:00 gametime! Racers that will be participating in the SRV championship should have enough time to make it over before then.

I didn't have time to post this last night, but that was hillarious, and we must have a rematch at WP24 :D

I hope you've got your ship sorted shab00ka, we missed you being in the race with us.

Thank you guys so much for making this an absolutely amazing time. I had no idea I could have this much fun just watching people race :p

Still waiting on a reply from tech support about the status of my ship and data, so we shall see how it goes.

That race was without a doubt the most fun I've had on the entire Distant Worlds Expedition :D

The whole event epitomised the camaraderie that has steadily grown in the DWE, waypoint by waypoint. In a curious way, the further we all travelled FROM home, the more AT home we all began to feel, because of the familiarity and trust and companionship we all developed along the way :)

And a sizeable part of that bond was forged in the freedom of those Wacky SRV Races - a thought to smile about indeed.

But there's a sad thought in there too, an ironic twist arising from the SRVs and their infamous "Pinto pebble" bug (as I call it).

The twist comes from the nature of the workaround Frontier have given us until the "Scarabo Explodo" bug is properly fixed. The workaround means that once an SRV is destroyed, relogging the game client revives the lost vehicle in the ship's hangar (complete with the damage and fuel status it had before its unfortunate demise).

As far as the Distant Worlds Expedition is concerned, the irony is this :

The only reason we've been able to keep running these fantastic, friendly and fun races (and so benefit from the bonding, the community spirit, and the countless hours of laughter) is because we knew any SRV we lost would be replaced.

But once the bug is fixed and such SRV auto-replacement becomes a thing of the past, then sadly races such as those we enjoyed 65,000LY from Earth will also become a thing of the past :(

Perhaps the Engineers content will allow us to buy/create an SRV-manufacturing module for our ships, and thereby allow explorers (or indeed anyone who likes to race) to continue this great tradition of community SRV races...who knows?

Alas though, if no such feature is planned for the game, then a wonderful chapter in Elite Dangerous community history will have come to an end.

And that gives me mixed feelings : I'm happy that I had the chance to participate in such carefree and above all such amazing FUN races...but I'm sad they might end. And sadder still for all the new (and existing) players who haven't experienced the spirit of comradeship and unbridled hilarity that I and the other DWE racers have enjoyed during the Golden Age of SRV Racing...and perhaps never will, post-bug fix.

If there is a way to engineer replenishable SRVs for those away from the bubble, then I implore FDev to consider it - because without such a feature, the galaxy will be a much quieter, and certainly less laughter-filled place [sad]

I couldn't agree more. +1 virtual rep :)

If and when they do get that bug fixed though, we wouldn't need SRVs replaced anywhere near as much, so there is still hope for the races!
