Distinguising between NPC's and RL Commanders

Whilst flying around in a REZ area, there's a lot of ships around... the ones that have the Elite Logo next to them, are they all NPC's or real players?
Is there any easy way of identifying them?

Solid dot on the radar, NPC. Hollow dot and CMDR in front of the name, player.

RL CMDR's have a hollowed rectangle in your scanner display and, when targeted, have CMDR before their names.
NPC's are solid rectangles.

I don't care one smeg if they are human or NPC, all that matters to me is are they clean or wanted and how big is their bounty ?

Also, if it changes from a rectangle to a triangle, either they are scanning or weapons are deployed. When they start flashing, they are either scanning or firing at you.

NPCs don't cry in the forums when you kill them.

That makes perfect sense... been a while since I've encountered a real commander.... space is a big thing.
