Distress Call Threat 0 - an interesting encounter

Last evening I was traveling about a random system, using the FSS and a bit of wandering looking for High Level Signal sources. I happened to come across a threat level 0 distress call. I had never seen one of these before (normally the ones I've seen they contain a transport ship and a random number of pirates). I said what the heck and dropped in, just to check it out. When I dropped in, there was a lone little hauler just cruising on by, but then, a lady's voice over my comms! "Hey there stranger, dont suppose you have any extra fuel on board? I miscalculated my jump and I'm running quite low" (words to that effect). I was like wow, this is pretty interesting! Sadly, I wasnt in a position to help out (no fuel transfer onboard)

My question is: is this new? If so, how new? Any notable reward? (Saving someone, however, is a reward in and of itself) a trap? Needless to say, i found the entire thing quite fascinating, and would love more random things like this to pop up.

Guess I missed the live streams, I have been away from Elite since before the Q4 beta. Just getting back into the swing of things. Thank you for the info!

Yup, That's one of the new scenarios that came with 3.3. There should be a timer telling you how long they're going to be there, giving you the opportunity to head back to a station, equip the fuel limpets, head back and save the ship.

I dunno if you get a reward apart from the warm and fuzzies of helping another pilot.

I've seen one like that. Another asked me for repairs, which I was more than happy to provide (I had repair limpets). As a reward, I was granted a 2k trade dividend bond.

It's too bad there are 8 or 9 types of limpets in this game, they eat up way too much space, and prevent you from interacting with some of the content.

That's why these Scenarios persist for a certain length of time. You have the option to fly to a station, equip your ship to refuel/repair, head back and solve the problem before the timer runs out.

All very good things! I did create a ship a while back, a Type 7 I called the "Deliverance". I designed it to be a refueling/repair/economy passenger/cargo search and rescue ship for the stations destroyed by thargoids. Might take it out and see what I can find!

I equiped a ship with the proper limpets to handle these while flying around gathering materials from other signal sources. The rewards are usually low, and I've yet to hit one that's a trap. I'm guessing it could help your home system if you're working the bgs.
