Distribution of materials on planet surface

I have seen people doing studies of biologicals and the best places to look for them. For example, bacteria likes flat surfaces, shrubs like hills etc.

Has anyone done a similar study for material gathering from rocks on the surface? For example, if I am looking for polonium an a planet that has the stuff (according to the detailed scanner), should I be looking in the mountains of the plains to increase the probability? Should I be looking in rocky ground or flat areas? Should I be looking for outcrops or meteorites? Or is it just totally random?

Has anyone figured out the scattering of materials. Obviously it is random, but does there become a point when it is better to return the SRV back to the ship and fly for a bit to get the material generation to kick in and regenerate the destructible rocks, rather than driving in a straight line in the vain hope that a material will appear on the scanner. If you fly around and come back to the same spot, will the rocks be in the same place and will they contain the same material. I am presuming that if two commanders land in the same place they will find the rocks in the same place. If one of them breaks up a rock can the other collect the materials as well?

I am happy to experiment, but if someone else has already figured it out, that would be good.

Aren't the raw mats still found in association with geological sites?
Polonium I would usually expect as Needle Crystals.
No, in Odyssey they can appear in outcrops etc. You don't need to go for geologicals such as fumes and vents. The geologicals are only returning common mats such as iron, carbon and sulphur. I believe that is a bug that needs fixing. Your common rocks and lumps are returning any of the materials, though mats such as Polonium are rarer.

No....when you see a body with say for example, a biological and 2 geologicals there suppose to be the same as horizons but they ain't. In fact in oddity they just don't exist even though their shown in the fss scan.
Defo borked.

I have had no problems finding biologicals and geological in Odyssey. I have had no problems getting mats from rocks, just with getting rare mats from.

That's what we're on about. In horizons you goto a geological that is 1.3% chance of say, polonium, and you land and lo an behold polonium is indeed there in the needles.
You'd ignore the others.
But not so in oddity

It used to be broken but I'd say it's OK now. I fly in EDO only and I got some Polonium and Yttrium from needle crystals yesterday.

Don't know if it works in Odyssey like it works in Horizons.
I find Polonium, Yttrium etc. most in Metallic Meteorites. Some metallic Outcrops have them too, as do some Mesosiderites. And I've found rare mats in every type of rock you can shoot for them, but others than aready mentioned have them extremely rarely. Metallic Meteorites are the best bet.
In my expreience, Metallic Meteorites tend to be found near crater rims (outside of the crater), even better if they intersect mountain slopes and/or other craters. Craters with central mound seem to be most prolific.
