Divinity - Original Sin

Already 28 hours in this game (and still only in the first city).

All I can say is one of my dream comes true ! :)
A good old RPG game with perfectly made turn based combat = pure win !

Plus the game is really challenging and require some thinking.
Try to just brute force any combat = you are dead.

This game was quite a nice surprise.
Definitely a must have.

Yea, the thinking about what to do, whom to talk... its nice.. maybe thats why ur in the first city/map still... Try talking to animals :)

This was totally off my radar until last weekend when I watche some of the GiantBomb quicklook. Then I started digging around for reviews, and it does look pretty awesome! I'm not sure when I'll get time to play this, but I think I definitely should some time!

I got this game almost on day 1 when my brother told me to look into it. I haven't kept in touch with video games all that much because the last decade has been plagued by brainless AAA titles. So I gave it a try without much expectation, and I have to say...

THIS IS RPG OF THE YEAR!

Unless Wasteland 2 can do the behemoth task of actually beating it of course. :D

All the reviews on metacritics can detail it better than I can so I'm gonna save you guys a wall of text and just say: it's the overachieving son of Ultima 7 and Baldur's Gate. That should be enough of a statement. ;)

Agreed, this is the thinking man's Baldur's Gate. Stunning achievement for a small software house. Wasteland 2 is shaping up nicely too but I don't think it's quite in the same league.

I've racked up about 17 hours, but re started a couple of times, so haven't reached level 4 yet :p! I'm really enjoying it so far, the combat is great, the world is fresh and colourful, while the conversations are entertaining. If you like the old style crpgs, you should definitely give this a go!

This is a great game, it's really grabbed my attention. At first it seems a little simplistic, but there is a decent amount of depth. What I think will really be amazing is the community mods for it, with the DEvs releasing the 'Divinity Engine' aka make your own mods.. having seen what other game communities make ie Skyrim, NWN etc and seeing some names on their forums I recall from other games I can't wait to see what they produce.

Good times ahead indeed!

Well, I got this in the end, I am enjoying it but already starting to get slightly bored of this murder investigation.

I wouldn't make a good detective.

I'm hoping there's a lot more to do afterwards.

Really like the combat.

I bought this, having *shock* never played Baldurs, but its incredible! The level of detail in what you can do is finer than any rpg ive ever played. In solo you can even argue with your PC groupie. A lot to learn with crafting and item combos but it lends itself to the depth of the game. 9.2/10 for me so far.

I was well confused at that point where you're teleported to the maelstrom with the Historian and the Time Lady... like I was in the middle of solving a murder here and you bring me to the end of days?!

I'm hoping there's a lot more to do afterwards.
Its the first city dude! There'll be loads more beyond it.

Really like the combat.
Yeh it kinda rolls like a 3D distance-affected Final Fantasy, i still have loads to learn though

@ Bains: personally, I find D:OS much better than I did DA:O. The only thing that Dragon Age did better was the party banter with companions, as in this Divinity, you only have two companions with any sort of dialogue. The devs said though that they'll be putting in more with future patches, and they only included two because the others didn't make the launch in time.

For everything else, after a dozen hours of playtime on D:OS and having completed DA, I found Divinity more challenging and more entertaining. Your mileage may vary, of course.

I can say D:OS is almost a masterpiece. Its not even a AAA class game but it has more innovation, content etc than most triple A titles. So far its the only Kickstarter game that has managed to meet or exceed my expectations and also one of the very few KS that were successful(not in KS but in release sales).

Between D:OS and DA:O, i'm kinda torn. Both are good but in different ways.

Without having a chance to play it yet I bought DA:O a month ago in the steam sales. But hearing all this about D:OS I've already gone off it a bit :(

How is the quantity of Combat compared to Dragon Age Origins (I stopped playing that halfway through the dwarvish deep roads due to being bored of the endless inflationary combat)?
It's not endless (in D:OS), and not inflationary. You rarely run into meaningless battles that you can just plough your way through. Personally, I'd say that combat is fun, and often challenging. There's also good variety in it.

Combat in D:OS is vastly superior to Dragon Age Origins. For one thing you actually have to think, quite a bit. Also everything is useful. EVERYTHING. I remember blowing through half of my scroll and potion collection to turn an ambush around in early game just by a hair. That fight made me giggle like a school girl. It's that fun.

To briefly cover a few bits..

Make it rain or throw water at the enemy and they'll get wet. This will decrease their resistance to cold/ice/lightning spells/attacks but increase their resistance to fire. A group of enemies in water? Lightning is your friend. Or turn it to ice and watch them slip and fall. Put some oil down and it will slow them down, or set it on fire. Create a steam cloud and you can move about unseen, or fire lightning into it and it becomes a static lightning cloud - not so good to be in. Set fire to poison clouds and they'll explode.

Loads of different weapons, with different stats and different speeds. Armours too. Make your own weapons, repair them or improve them. Make spells or skill books from scratch it you want, getting wood, making mush and then paper, getting feathers making quills... the list goes on and on.

Tactics, planning and a bit of luck count a lot in combat. It is fun, sometimes a scroll or potion in on of your packs makes all the difference. Don't hoard your goodies, use them.. :D
