I currently use a DK1 for playing Elite. I absolutely LOVE it. I know I am missing out on all those resomolutions but quite frankly I can BARELY run the game at 1280x800 at minimum settings on my computer as-is, so it's going to be quite a while before I get to fully experience space with visual clarity.
So, I've found that if you calibrate (reset HMD orientation) while looking up, it brings the cockpit forward. I do a bit of VR development myself, and I believe that this is due to the way the "positional tracking" is being handled on the DK1. See, the DK1 has no positional tracking, but when creating a VR rig, even for fixed position tracking, you typically model the movement as if you have a neck, and pivot up and down from the base of it. So, when you look up, the position of the HMD is offset by the angle created when leaning back with your neck. When calibrating, this offset is used as if it were a true-positional offset. I've got a little terribly drawn diagram here:
Er... I guess I can't link or put images in on a new user account so nevermind...
This is probably a bug, but I use it commonly to bring my displays closer. The only time I've ever been able to clearly read the chat window on my DK1 is in the cozy Eagle fighter cockpit (very close to the displays as-is) after exploiting this calibration bug. So it got me thinking... I'd love to have some sort of "seat adjustments" where you can push the seat forward or pull it back. It would really help if I could push forward on most of the ships so I gain readability, but I am sure there's other cases and reasons you might want to make these adjustments.
In a slightly related conversation: I'd love it if the back of the seat rest would just go away when trying to look up/behind. There's a LOT of clipping going on there on the latest patches. Is this affecting DK2 users as well?
