DK2 Help

My DK2 arrived today and I'm having a bit of a mare setting it up.
My primary monitor is a 47" tv. If I set the oculas to mirror the desktop then the oculas display appears in landscape rather than portrait (ie everything is at 90 degrees), the option to change the orientation as its greyed out. If I change the orientation of the TV to portrait then the rift is cool but the TV is of course messed up.

If set the rift up as extend the desktop then (really hard to explain this) but it like the middle half the screen is missing and the left eye is showing 25% of the screen and the right eye is showing another 25% screen. It makes my eyes want to jump out my head.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

You won't be able to look at your desktop through the rift without using something like Virtual Desktop. In extended mode you will see half a desktop in one eye and the other half in the other eye.

It's only when you start a compatible game in oculus rift mode that the game will display two game images side by side, which will look correct through the rift.

Most demos will work well in direct mode and will have a directtorift.exe that you can launch the program with. It's games that mainly need extended mode to function properly. E:D doesn't work correctly in direct mode. It runs at 60Hz with no low persistence so I wouldn't bother with it.

Cheers guys. I was looking at the desktop trying to figure out why that wasn't working.
Man that does your eyes in.

followed the instructions for ED and up and running now. A few other problems to solve, but harvesting the forums for solutions
