DK2 Installation

I've had my DK2 a while, but never got it working. there were issues with Win 10, so I was more or less advised to give up on Win 10.

Since then, I've got a Win 8 setup too, so I have a choice. I's like to get it working because it cost a lot of money.

Can someone point me at the latest installation guide. I've searched, but there's been so many changes that I can't tell which advice is valid.

Thanks. i saw that, but it doesn't say which Windows version to use, neither does it say whether any other runtime is better..

I tried using the Oculus setup in that link, but it's nor for the DK2, so it doesn't work. It tells me that it won't work without the remote controller. Which runtime does that setup install: How would I know?

This is all really frustrating, surely someone knows how to get the damn thing working.

The second post from the link is about DK2 and any windows version. You cannot choose runtimes any more (if you exclude SteamVR).

It is simple really, you just have to persist through the seeming failures to detect the DK2. I did and it works much better than before.

The process for getting my DK2 up and running was relatively painless. I just skipped past all the stuff that was for the CV1.

The ease of setup might have something to do with the fact that I own a Xbox360 joypad. You may need to have one to get through the setup procedure. I don't know if any game controller would do.

Thanks for your help. I have the DK2 working. I can see their store, though I've got no way of navigating around it. How do I get ED to appear on the DK2? All I have now is their grey tiles with the stars on the DK2 while ED is running?

I'm not sure what you mean by "grey tiles with stars", but looks like you have Oculus Home installed so you're almost there! Now you need to enable support for launching programs outside Oculus Home.

In Oculus Home, click Settings icon, then general and switch on "allow unknown resources".

Then start Elite, go to graphics settings and select hmd (speakers) or hmd (headphones) in 3d settings.

And you are off! :) Fly safe, cmdr

I'm also having problems with a DK2 and ED. I borrowed it from a friend a few days ago. I'm on the latest SDK and software (Oculus Home says 1.3.1), latest nvidia drivers, (gtx760) Win7. I've got Oculus Home content working and I can play Eurotruck 2 with no problems.
When I set ED to HMD + speakers/headphones and apply settings, ED crashes to desktop.
When I start ED up again, I see the ED logos on my monitor and sound plays. On the Rift, I can see the ED logo and head tracking works. It says "preparing shaders" then crashes back to Oculus Home. I never get to the main menu. I've been tinkering for ages and I'm frustated now. I feel like I'm missing something. ED works fine in non-vr mode. Any ideas?

Yeah it's the same with SteamVR installed. I've uninstalled it since. I actually launch ED from outside Steam just to take it out of the equation. I'm on the latest drivers. I edited my previous post to say that I can see logos on the dk2 and head tracking works. It loads shaders then crashes to desktop. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Strange indeed. I have no idea what is wrong, but would try to reinstall the game and then all the drivers :(
