As already mentioned - download latest oculus software - skip the setup bit and ignore any messages about it not being supported (works just fine) - I would then recomend setting up elite via steam vr as, for me at least, I find this works with the least amount of hassle.
Using DK2 with a 970 got a bit motion sick for the first time ever today around the new alien motherships - hoping the new 1070 in a fortnight might help with that though![]()
Also using a dk2, think it runs better launched through the oculus software, maybe just due to steam not running?
I also just got my hands on a DK2 yesterday and ordered a Thrustmaster Hotas X all to have an epic start in D:E.
I run Windows 7 Sp1 and with firepower from a MSI 1070 Gaming 8GB.
I couldnt get the setup from oculus running due to some issues of the hotfix checks and kernel errors. I bypassed it and made it install the software now.
The setup of the glasses itself doesnt work. it shows the sensors OK but the HEadset USB and HDMi not, also I have a yellow light.
I skipped this setup as advised , plugged the hdmi in the graphics card hdmi slot and voila blue light. Oculus home works but I just cant tweak any settings. I have no utlities control app or anything. Also Steam VR is not recognizing the DK2.
I mean the Vr works in the oculus home environment with the store and stuff but I have no option to extend my desktop to use the DK2 with windowns or any games as I have no utilities program at all? Is it a wrong runtime? Which one do you recommend to use DK2 with Elite at this moment? I am very frustrated and am thankful for any tips and help!

Congrats on the DK2!
Setup has changed over the years - there is no need to set extended desktop or the DK2 runtime.
Make sure you have updated Win7 fully. Unplug everything DK2 related (HDMI, USB, sync cable) and run setup from here: https://www3.oculus.com/en-us/setup/
Once setup has completed, reboot. Setup your HOTAS X with whatever driver it needs. Plug your DK2 back in. Don't launch the Oculus program. Switch it on - it should have an amber light. Don't put it on your head yet. Launch Elite, set your controller as your HOTAS X and in the 3d settings choose HMD as your 3d device. You should notice the headset light go blue, and the sensor light up blue also. Look into the DK2, and you will (hopefully) get an image of a lovely Eagle and an SRV. Put it on, launch a training mission, and enjoy
I also suggest wearing a tshirt that hides drool. You will almost certainly need it.
If you get an image - and it looks "scratchy" or blacks are not very deep and look washed-out, and oranges are pale tan - double check the power, USB and sync cables on the sensor. Sync cables, it seems, are particularly prone to failure on the DK2 (and easy to not notice you have unplugged it)- and as you still have head tracking it's easy to believe that nothing is wrong.
