DK2 + SteamVR troubleshooting help

Took almost a year off from the game, and figured I'd give it a shot again with my DK2. I have Win10, Runtime .8, and the most recent NVidia drivers. I'm running into an issue where the game stops displaying on my DK2, but it still shows it on the mirror screen at really low FPS. Whenever I restart the game, I get the same issue right away at the main menu. The only way for me to play the game again is to restart my pc.

It doesn't occur at a set time, sometimes I could play the game for hours before it happens, sometimes within minutes into playing the game, I've tried using both the steamVR beta and the non beta version. I've disabled overlays, turned off background apps, reinstalled the runtime, steamVR and I still have the same issues.

Just curious if anybody else had similar issues or any suggestions on how to troubleshoot my problem.

How do you start the game?

Steps: (On windows 10).

1) Make sure that the video drivers are at their latest releases (beta ones).
2) SDK 8.0 installed, and Rift configured.
3) Latest SteamVR beta installed. (and if the first time runs the SteamVr configuration utility *(appears on monitor when you run it).

**note that the above only need be installed, they do not need to be actively running.

4) Start Elite Dangerous via the launcher, select the 64 bits version of the game (either plain or Horizon).
5) If not on HMD by default, go into the game config, video, and select HMD in the 3D drop down.

Enjoy the game.

If the issues continue, I'd make sure that the video drivers are not conflicting (e.g disable/uninstal the SDK (and turn off the rift); use DDU on the video drivers, reinstall them, reinstals the SDK. SteamVR either works or it does not so if it works it need not fiddling.

If the issue continue, I'd take a look at Event manager to see if any critical errors show in the log and deal with those.
