Dk2 users, how do you "use Flight Controls" w DK2 covering your face?Joystick a must?

let'f face the sad reality, you cannot play ED with oculus. There are so many feature you need to activate with so many button that you can hardly imagine an interface that would fit. You need to type on the keyboard, that is a no-go without pretty good voice recognition.
even voice attack cannot help here. The best you can do is to split the command into small group (thrust on feet with pedal) , most of directional command on a good joystick . you can add a second block of control on the other hand and leave the remaining to voice attack if possible.
personally i think there should be a special VR version (or profile) of ED without the pilot body or seat interfering when you are looking on the side, and a special interface to allow shortcuts of commands.
the interface still looks keyboard minded.

As I've said before, it is perfectly possible to play ED with m+kb+oculus, specially if you are used to blind typing, and if you are not, you can get the general feel for the keys in a few hours of play time. I have had zero problems playing with default bindings with m+kb and the rift.

It's a troll - I've uploaded a boring video 3 months ago, depicting that it's perfectly possible to interact with your environment using a rift.

Spent a couple of hundred hours in ED since then and my clumsiness in the video makes me chuckle nowadays. Maybe he should have told me about the "reality" that "I cannot play ED with oculus" back then. I should have known better...

To add something constructive: Learn to type.

What's that guy doing wrong that he can't play the game in a rift? My pilots body doesn't interfere with anything and I honestly haven't played 5 minutes without the rift. Screen just doesn't do it for me after getting a taste of vr.

I feel bad if he's just a guy who can't afford one or has a disability that prevents it but to lash out and say it's unusable is a bit ridiculous when there is a whole forum full of happy users.

Hi there I have recently started playing ED now using the DK2 and I am having issues getting voice attack to work.I have read the manual and set up a delay, changed to DX mode and run the app as an Admin. The speech is being recognized but its doing nothing in the game itself. I have changed the settings from Active Window to Elite Dangerous to the ED Launcher and nothing seems to work. I am sure I am doing something obviously wrong but cant figure out exactly what. I have downloaded other users profiles to make sure it wasnt just my own basic config that was wrong and the same happens with them.

Cheers

Just stopped by Fry's in California. Sold out of the x52 pro, so I have the regular x52. About to try it in the next few minutes.

Is the pro that much better for "feel" and should I eventually get that instead? Money isn't an object here for this hobby, they simply only had the non pro version.

This has been fun guys : )

Aye, HOTAS is the way to go with DK2 for total immersion (as your avatars hands are on throttle and stick).

Also means playing my favorite new game of "Find the joystick". No matter how many times Ive done it, after taking my hand off the stick I ALWAYS try and find the virtual one. And look like a drunkard in the dark.

I use an x55 mounted to a home built wooden stand with metal legs with my keyboard in the middle and my mouse to the side. That way I can sit up in my bed and use it. If you know how to touch type, using a keyboard with the rift isn't too bad. Just feel for the bumps on the f and j keys. I would definitely recommend getting a hotas though since it raises the immersion factor considerably and it's just way easier and better to control.

thanks for all the responses everyone but I really was specifically asking why the Pro X 52 is better then the regular X 52.

Can anyone chime in on that specifically please?

When I was using the kb and stick, I just glued a piece of rubber on the W key, a simple way to find it and I binded what needed around that key.

If you are looking for a cheap HOTAS joystick, the Thrustmaster T flight is very good and I can't justify spending more to replace it. Its only weakness to me is the lack of being able to program the keys directly, which I don't need in elite, but I could use for my voice command software. Its a very minor issue.

A good voice command set up, plus joystick/throttle, plus OR = You are in the freaking cockpit. Its almost freaky when my real arms are in the exact same position as the VR avatar. The only issue is the VR guy must have easy cramping hands, he moves them way too often off the stick ;)

If you don't have a DK2 and a X52 or X52pro you're missing something in your life.... I don't know what I will do once CV1 comes out. I might have to pay someone to pull me out of VR.

See you in space!

X-55 Hotas for me. Only thing I need keyboard for is typing in star names on the galaxy map (could do with an xbox style onscreen keyboard for that) but EVERYTHING else is doable on the sticks. X52 is equally as good, just get something with tons of buttons

Thanks,
James
