DLC Announcement/Launch Question

Wasn’t this thread about the DLC and how it was announced?

BTW seems to me that JWE uses different code than PC, because it’s a multiplatform title and doesn’t have the Cobra Engine logo on it’s site (probably that’s why it has rain and storms settings).

I also would love Planet Safari and JWE as PC expansions or standalone games PC compatible, but up to Frontier.

Going back on topic, I’m really curious about how it will look the Land Ahoy ride, they haven’t shown anything about it yet. Although I must recognise I’m a bit disappointed that they haven’t said anything about a possible goat animatronic in the DLC [cry]

Totally agree. The marketing stinks. I got more info of from this interview of some small YouTube channel
https://youtu.be/BQrjfLjrVw4

But... that's part of marketing [wacky].

We like working with content creators and sometimes they get exclusives. YouTube and Twitch are great ways to spread the word thanks to the amazing content creators on those channels, which is why we build relationships with them.

Also, marketing for a small DLC is inherently different to marketing a new game; there's different strategies for everything. We ultimately believe in managing expectations and creating hype in an organic way. Our team is full of extremely talented people with a lot of combined industry knowledge.

Cheers,
Bo

This thread is actually a proof that the strategy works very well...

Frontier please keep up the good work you are doing with your marketing and product :)

Who are we even to decide what marketing a company follows. Judging it is fine, but it should stay there.
Yes, we are the buying customers, but buying a product from someone doesn't include a full on saying about a company's business.

I'm a Coca Cola addict, but I still can't decide about their commercials or strategy's.

Yes, Frontier is indeed doing a good job. Better then some other company's out there....

People may feel it is a cashgrab, but it's not a pay to win formula like a lot of other games tend to do. It's a pay to play formula which I like a lot more.

The fact that Frontier is handing out incredibly large and exciting updates, such as the Summer Update, and the Anniversary Update more recently, and the fact that they are doing this for free, means that they then have no income from the game after someone has bought it, which is why DLC is paid content. - It enables Frontier to have money to Develop the game further, and enables them to hand out these free updates once in a while to the community.

I would agree with alot of things said here on both sides. I like the marketing and the hype thats built around the mystery of the DLCs. Also consider that there are maybe hundreds of content creators you can go to that give full videos of every piece when the pack immediately launches.

If I was to ask for one thing though it would be that I would really appreciate in depth patch notes with things like this, a huge list of every item when the update launches, just to give the scale of whats coming and what we maybe would expect inside.

<3 Frontier though, this is awesome!

I know the replies on the news feed and user reviews in Steam are not always that fair (or friendly for that matter), but it is an interesting way to see how the gaming community reacts to the release of the DLC. Apparently a lot of gamers didn't see this pack coming and the responses are mixed to say the least.

I guess we could have expected the obligatory "Did they fix the performance yet?!" moaning, same goes for the complaints about the lackluster and shallow management features. I still have the feeling the game is being perceived as a great design tool for people that have too much time on their hands, but not an engaging or challenging game. Announcing a pack with little more than more scenery does nothing for that reputation, so maybe it was the right decision to only aim at the die-hard fans of the genre/ theme park industry.

What I didn't see coming however, was the amount of cheapskates and hash reviews about the fact that it cost money. Not even about the price being somewhat steep (that might be arguably valid) but the mere fact that it costs money at all! I suppose it is cool to hate greedy publishers, especially after the recent exposure of scummy business behind lootboxes and microtransactions.

Considering that "costs money" here means "didn't I pay for this once already?" It's a valid issue. Personally I'm willing to pay some more for versatile scenery with thorough flexi-color options, and willing to complain about it where I find that lacking. [sulk]

Personally, I am not complaining about "paid" DLCs, however, when we add the price of all 5 DLCs together, its almost equal to the price of the base game, AND we know there will most likely be more DLCs. Eventually, the DLCs will make the game quite expensive. Now, me personally? I would rather spend the $34 on a bigger expansion, like RCT3 had with water parks. The devs don't seem like they want to announce a big expansion yet, which is fine if they are keeping it a secret, but it does not help grow the fan base to release miniDLCs like they are.

I do though, try to express how I think the game could be better, as a casual player I try to suggest ideas for casuals (such as a grid for terrain and terrain walls) but it doesnt seem like the diehards care enough about that to warrant the devs working on it :(

I think this is what the devs want, but I dont know why. The new staff rest and staff break feature is cool, but its just overall theres something lacking in gameplay. Theres tons of popular sim management games coming out in 2018, and its a shame that PC doesnt fall in the same category as those games.I think it would help grow the fanbase if it did, but theres a lot of UI/QoL problems with PC that IMO keeps a lot of players away from playing more.

Breezer do you need to keep bringing the same topics/points of view into every thread you post in (water parks/expansions/UI problems etc)? The OP was about how the DLC is marketed, very little (if anything) of your post is actually on topic. Let's not derail the thread again [cool]

Agreed. Please get back on topic: DLC Announcement/Launch Question

Despite the title of the thread, the topic of discussion has been about marketing, and its not like I'm talking about Halo or something [cool]

Nevertheless, you have a habit of going off-topic a lot of the time. Please try to minimize that in the future. Thanks!

I’m happy for you to close thread Joel. Bo has kinda responded, all be it not directly to me. Lots of thread deviations now so I’m happy for it to close.

I don't really like their secretive approach but if it works for them, I can't really judge since I'm not an expert in marketing/advertising [tongue] But as a customer/fan, it's a bit frustrating that they are very secretive about what they're working on. I guess they think keeping their plans secret generates more hype than letting us in. Like, if over the summer they started teasing a Spooky pack and an Adventure pack "coming soon this fall/winter" would that help or hurt the hype and sales?
