Do animals breed with relatives?

My assumption would be that animals would instinctively not breed with their parents or siblings, but I can't find anywhere in the game where I can see who is related to who. So I wonder if the game is even tracking that?

yep, they breed with relatives.
you will notice when they do, the offspring stats will be very low, and a lot of the time, infertile, it is quite annoying they didnt add a family tree in for beta, i think its rather needed for a game like this, i really hope we have a family tree in the 'stud book' on release.

As a side note, i personally started to add numbers to names, eg
[1 - J-K] Mia
[2] Jack
[3] Hidori

the numbers for me mean generation. the letters are who the parents are [example is the first one, dad: Jake .. Mom: Kiri ... so first letter of each parents name]
it helps with stopping parent - child breeding, but is not a solid system.

Incest is a thing? Depends on the animal if the gen pool is to similar will cause issues for the new born in reality. Hamster even nail their own mothers.

Ehm yeah.

Animals don't even know what incest is.
That's not exactly true, it depends on the animal. While they don't know what incest is, they instinctively avoid it, or have evolved social patterns that decrease the likelihood. For example, lions in lion prides can tell which babies are theirs and help raise those while killing any others. When the cubs grow up, the males are chased off to form their own prides, leading to genetic diversity being maintained.

Don't think it is working entirely though, as right now there is no way to check parents, and even my baby animals show as 'adopted' and 'from the wild' rather than born in the zoo. I even test bred a incest baby and his stats were normal. I did report this on the issue tracker though
