Do any of you have two accounts to allow for extended exploration?

I'd love to go exploring, out to the edges, but I'd miss the CGs, Taxi runs, Space Trucking and all the other things I can do in the bubble.

I wondered if a second account might be the solution. I could leave one CMDR in the bubble and set sail with the other for pastures unknown.

I don't mind starting over with the bubble guy as it's pretty easy to make credits in this game, without grinding. [cool]

Has anyone else done this as a solution to the 'One CMDR per Account' limitation, or are you all just hardcore explorers with no interest in the bubble? :D

I do this.
My second account has been out since June and is currently returning from the core at a leisurely pace. When he gets back to the bubble, I plan to swap them so he can spend some time in the bubble reping, ranking and engineering.
My first account has been doing CGs in the bubble and ranking up with the Engineers. He now has a fully engineered 54ly ASP itching to get out to the rim.

Starting fresh wasn't too hard. It only took a week or two to get the ~12 mil I needed to kit out a DBE for exploration and head out toward Colonia. I only had a couple mil left over for rebuy but I got lucky when I arrived at Jaques there was a CG for exploration data and I had so much I got into the top 10% and made about 90 mil on top of ~20 mil for the exploration data. So I was able to earn some even after leaving the bubble.

To swap commanders, I just run a batch file to swap out the user.config file.
I had a more complex script for swapping but since 2.2 I don't need to worry about keeping the netlog files separated.

The only drawback to swapping is that your saved route is lost when you switch.
That and of course you have to pay for the game all over again. And the paint jobs.
I don't mind paying for the second account though since I want Frontier to succeed and keep making content.

Some people definitely do. I've got one account and I've not seen a station in more than 15 months. That probably makes me a "hardcore explorer with no interest in the bubble" :)

Nope, I just have one account and I like it that way. Elite is my virtual life as a space pilot, and there ain't two of me! If I feel the need to do bubble stuff then I need to fly back to civilization from wherever I currently am. I like having to make choices about what I want to do and where I want to go, and I like all of my credits, ships, reputations, and ranks tied to one commander.

I play Flight Simulator X this way too. I use an addon called Flight Sim Economy (FSE) which adds a light RPG quality to FSX, providing missions and airport businesses and aircraft you can buy and maintain, much like a real life no combat Elite on Earth actually. If you land your plane at an airport then it's there and you need to fly it out to go anywhere else. I've been flying in FSE for over a decade now. I only have one account each with Euro Truck and American Truck too. I like having a virtual pilot RPG element to my simulators.

Funny, I am just now planning a long trip on my second account. It will be my first long-range exploration trip ever. So yes, it's a viable thing to do. :)

Yep, I do. I have one CMDR out at the edge who was part of the DWE and another who I keep near the Bubble so I can follow the game updates and take a break from the isolation. It's a good way to keep both elements of ED in play for me but what you gain in variation you lose time allowed to each CMDR.

Deliberately not wanting a second account. Would distract me too much. When i'm out exploring i want to know i'm a long way from everything and that i am missing out on other stuff. I want to know there is no quick return. Makes me quite attached to the single CMDR i have.

i have two accounts, basically for the reasons mentioned by you above. did for exampel loading up ships for the current cg colonia with it.

second account does not have horizons - also allows me to talk with some first-hand experience, when people claim "that you need engineering because npc" etc. etc.

i'm thinking about getting a third one, to move one of my accounts permanently to colonia. will do that, when my main reaches triple elite.

Playing regularly with a friend means I can't just run off to following interesting ideas, hunt aliens, etc. So I've bitten the bullet and just started a second Cmdr to do that sort of stuff in my spare time.

Same with me too.
I don't miis the bubble that much, but I targeted to rank up with the Engineers to max out may ships as much as I can, so I'm headed back (although I don't think I'll arrive sooner than end of January). A bonus will be that finally I can see those new stations and Belugas. :)

I've just purchased a second account. How do I flip between the two accounts?

Sorry for my noob question :)

Edit: Pah! Messed up already!
I can't log in because both accounts are registered to the same email address :(

New stations are nice, great variety. I'm still loving the radio voices even though that was a 2.1 thing (I went out under 2.0 and returned post 2.2). Belugas.....way too common if you ask me. And pretty much stuff any busy station.

As to OP. Been contemplating a 2nd for a while but never did. If it was a shared thing, like a shared bank account and paint jobs etc I might have already bit the bullet but for now I tend to agree with Cmdr Mengy. I have limited time as it is so splitting would be a nightmare.
