Do bigger ships like the Anaconda have turrets with 360 degree fire arcs?

Hi all

Just curious as to whether these bigger ships will always lose to a more maneuverable ship that can stay on there tail? Can they have, say, a rear firing gimble weapon which autofires?

Thanks

They trade maneuverability and speed for brawn and hardpoints.

There have been times as well in the heat of a fight that the 'Conda managed to turn to face me, and it took less than a second for it to drop my shields.

360 death makes sense but would seem OP without a way to circumvent it and take out the Anacondas subsystems.

Conda and a good pilot can mean trouble of the laser melting kind!

But in a one on one dual (Anaconda vs Cobra) with equal pilots surely the odds are VERY much in the Cobra's favour - unless the Cobra gets taken out on the first pass. I'm assuming the the Cobra will get on the tail and never lose it. Shouldn't a Cobra be afraid of an Anaconda?

Just seems a shame that the bigger ships, especially civilian traders, don't have at least some sort of all around defense. ED seems to take a very realistic approach to most things and am suprised that side/rear turrets are not in the game.

Just to be clear; i'm speaking here from a position of much ignorance as i only just completed the first single player mission :D

There are turreted weapons in the game already but they are VERY expensive compared to normal weapons. I saw a turreted laser (level 4 i think it was) for 155000 credits once.

cool - by turreted do you mean they have 360 degree fire, or maybe a rear arc or something?

also if they are not forward facing presumably they autoaim?

In previous Elite's big ships like the Anaconda did have turrets that could fire 360 degrees around the ship but, of course, a top turret could not fire below a plane and a bottom turret could not fire above. This gives some potential gaps in fire that a Cobra could take advantage of.
The question though of Cobra vs Anaconda depends a huge amount of settings and setup. In general and small ship (Cobra on down) should indeed be wary of an Anaconda since they have the potential to have mounted some serious gear and output high damage at range.

The Anaconda does have turret weapons.

I tried to take one down in an Eagle - was bounty hunting. I too assumed that if I stuck to the rear, yeah... no.

When it turned slightly - its side/top/bottom weapons took me out. I took the shields down and got him to 80% hull, before I died.

Cant tell yet because it was too expensive at that time but i noticed there is a turret weapon mode option in the right side panel of your ship. But i guess to set that option to anything else than forward requires an actual turret weapon mounted on your ship.

thanks for that - sounds good

Quite intrigued to find out how turrets will work, is it going to be possible to maneuver and fire at the same time or are you going to be left like a sitting duck when you are using the turrets?

Admittedly a sitting duck with a big gun :D

Anaconda can fit turretted auto-firing class 4 weapons, two on the top, one on the bottom. They have pretty good firing arcs, but the targetting is buggy at the moment.
