Do geological sites respawn?

I’ve landed at a few of the geological sites on this planet. Added a couple things to codex, but mostly here for minerals. After clearing all the clusters, needles, etc around the site, it never seems to respawn even after logging out and back in from solo to private game, nor after I logged out and slept overnight. Do they ever respawn? Trying to stock up on vanadium.

Yes, but it takes a couple of weeks.

Just move on to another site, or if necessary another planet. You're not going to run out of usable sites, especially not for something relatively common like Vanadium.

Agreed - more fun to see different sites. Or find a planet with 50 sites and spend weeks mining them all :)

Edit: Same with Bio sites

If we can agree on a centralized repository of info: maybe Cannon, maybe eddb.io we can create “maps” of bodies.

Basically a scatter plot of the Co-ords for eg BIO-01 through BIO-XX
X axis -180 to +180 long. Y axis -90 to +90 lat.

There’s already data collection like this for Thargoid Barnacles: https://canonn.fyi/tbsheet
It even calculates Barnacle ripe/barren status and how many barnies & MAs there are.
Just need to extend it to include BIO & GEO locations.

Could be done.
Would be useful.

Ok that fits with what I’ve observed, thanks for the confirmation. And yes I went on to the other 6 sites on that planet. I liked it for which minerals, but also because it was flatter and sunlight beaming brightly. And vanadium supposedly common, but seems more elusive than things in rarer classes.

Unfortunately those sites don’t integrate fully for those of us on Xbox.

I remember the Ripe, dead, unripe, cycle thing for the Barnacles because of the F&$king horrible time trying to find them with Lat/Lon co-ordinates. These days though it's just a couple of probes and an orbital cruise drop. If the site's dead then it's no sweat to find another.

So easy, so wonderfully easy....

Surface geological sites are not necessarily a good place to look for G2 [1] materials.

The reason is that each planet has 3 G2s, 2 G3s, and 1 G4. So if you're looking for the G4, all the needle crystals are guaranteed to be it. If you're looking for Vanadium, only about 1/3 of the crystalline fragments [2] are going to be that. There are more crystalline fragments at the sites, but still, not necessarily enough to compensate.

If you're going to geological sites, you might be considerably more efficient finding a planet with the appropriate higher-grade material, and then trading that down 9:1 for Vanadium.

[1] I'm using the geological grade here, not the economic grade used by material traders, though they're the same for 90% of elements.

[2] My theory is that this is where the material percentages start to matter: you want a planet where the Vanadium percentage is higher than the percentage of the other two G2 elements (where it sits relative to G1, G3 or G4 elements doesn't matter). But I haven't done the work needed to confirm this.

Raw materials just have a weird distribution that doesn't fit their tier structure. There's an extreme abundance of G1 in almost all resource nodes crowding out other tiers of materials, except for the highest value rocks like metallic meteorites. But then those spawn G4 with a high enough likelihood that they still crowd out G2 and G3 from dropping in high numbers. The result of this is that G2-G3 are effectively a lot rarer than their trade-in value suggests so it's always more effective to farm G4 and trade down.

Since Geological Sites are a dime a dozen these days, stocking up on virtually any Elements should be dirt easy.

If one site enters a Regeneration Cycle after being harvested, just hit another and move on. Easy as that.

As Guyperson said, seeking higher Grade Elements to trade them down afterwards is by far the most efficient way.
I personally only harvest Needle Crystals and Crystalline Clusters in order to fill up with G3/G4. Should I need any specific G1/G2, I just trade.

Worked like a charm during a Colonia CG and during the initial Engineers Upgrade Trials, which required many thousands of low-Grade Elements.

In practice, two thirds of Barnies will be barren, so your chance of having a lot of hops is high. And while Barnacles all show up after a DSS probing, they’re not numbered like the Bio and Geo sites. So if you want a specific barnacle for it's cycle state or uh some of them have 5 MAs and some have 1, so it counts where you go. Also when you get a pair of Barnies you get lots of Thorns to harvest for rare mats.

Yeah Geological sites are everywhere now, so not really an issue. Regarding re spawns, is everyone sure it is a week? I've had a few of these freezes/disconnects whilst planetside, will see respawns when I log back in.

Thanks all. I feel silly but it never occurred to me to use a materials trader! I guess I sort of had in my mind the traders were just for manufactured materials, lol silly I did know there are 3 types of traders, just forgot or something.
