Do hired crew still take a percentage when flying non-hanger ship?

I know that active and non-active hired crew take a % of your profits, but if you switch to a ship with can't use hangers do they still take a cut?

It has been my experience that yes, they do. That lazy expert pilot was happily feeding off my bounties whilst I risked life and limb flying around killing pirates in an FDL.

I fired him immediately upon discovering this.

Yep they do. I just hired a novice one. SJA fixed the AI about being braindead on planets, so I figured I'd hire one instead of go without. Not sure how they'll do on a high G world though, but for low G they aren't boosting into the ground.

That's why I'll get one only when needed and fire him afterwards. With a wife and three kids, I like my imaginary worlds to be free of financial parasites!

I'm doing the same. Finding a mostly harmless pilot and only hiring them. No point in hiring three.

I've tested an NPC driven Cutter on a 6G world. :)

Okay thanks guys. Info much appreciated. +1.

I think I'll do the same and fire the crew. I don't use my Anaconda more than my FDL or Asp. Yeah I don't really get why anyone would hire 3 crew at the moment. Maybe for the next update, multi-crew? Even so 3 would be a hefty cut into profits.

What exactly is the point in hiring more than just one pilot anyway?
I couldn't think of a reason back in beta and still see no need for it now.
