Do I buy an eagle

I went ahead and bought an eagle, as when someone pointed out that I would only lose 10% if I part exchanged it, I thought what the hell. I did expect the jump distance to be less than it should be for the class of ship, but I did think it would be the same as the sidewinder, I was wrong

It is a better ship in all other respects, however I had a nice little trade run going on from I Bootis. I left this little area to go to Eranin to buy my ship. Yep you guessed it. I cannot get back to I Bootis, even with an empty cargo hold. It seems I am now stuck working between 5 systems, the only ones I can reach, I cannot jump outside them. Two of the 5 systems are anarchy systems, so I guess its now time to learn my fighting skills :)

I don't know what I am going to do, my wife is going to kill me, when I left home in I Bootis, I told her I would be back for tea.

I have been saving for another ship setup (still very much a novice). I had figured on needing 26K for an eagle, 3 pulse lasers, enough to put aside for insurance, and some left over cash to trade cheap goods.

Another hours play should do it, but having read around the forum, there seems to be so much negative comments about the eagle, so would like to ask a few questions.

1/ is it faster than the sidewinder?
2/ is the range greater than the sidewinder?
3/ seeing as I do not want to save for a more expensive ship, is it worth getting?

If not I might as well buy a new sidewinder just to get shut of the sticky plaster on the interior :)

the eagle is great fun to fly but not rated in its powress. the only thing to do is making cash with in the various battlegrounds.

hauler will get you to a viper or cobra much faster.

it's spacetrucking vs pewpewpew imo

I used an Eagle to gold-scavenge my way to a Viper, it's comforting to know you're in a reasonably fast ship when scooping up goods that are not technically yours ;)

But yes, if you're looking to trade normally, then might as well stick with the Sidey until you can afford a Hauler.

This is Beta. Get some credits so if you die you can rebuy the ship and any add-on equipment. Try all of them out including the Eagle to get a feel per what works and what doesn't. The Eagle does have advantages. Figure them out. Try different weapons. If you learn to survive and take out targets with small class ships and weapons then you will be so much better when you move up to better ones. It is all about skill and the six dimensions of travel. Get your combat skills down and you will do well with any ship. Die many times but with each event you get better.

Again it is Beta. You can replenish Sidewinders for free working out your combat skills until you get better at them.

There is no ship or weapons solution if you have not mastered the fundamentals of combat in Elite Dangerous.
