Engineers do I have to mod my guns using the same mod, levels 1-5?

if I mod a gun level one, can the next mod (level two) be a different mod? or do I have to keep using the same mod, e.g efficient weaon level one, can the next mod on that gun be high capacity magazine?
I ask cos I have nearly given up looking for the cracked industrial firmware, and am wondering if I can just bypass it.
I am aiming to reach the level 5 mod overcharged weapon.

You can mod it over and over. It doesn't matter by which one. but only one mod can be active at the time. The previous mod will be discarded and new applied.
