Newcomer / Intro Do I HAVE TO side with the feds if I want access to Sol?

I hear that Sol is exclusively for those that have high rep with feds. Does this mean that if I end up siding with empire I wont be able to see earth?

It says "All Alpha and Beta backers were given an automatic permit to Sol, without having to first earn a reputation with the Federation." Implying that I need rep with the feds as non-beta/alpha player?

The treashold for the Sol permit is quite low

You could always slip quietly into Fed space and do the missions without harming your Imperial standing..... I won't tell on you

You misunderstand what they said. You seem to think you have to side with one only, but you dont, hence what you quoted.

If you look at that link, you'll see that the rank to access Sol is Midshipman (if you do not have the alpha/beta permit).
Midshipman is apparently only the 3rd rank in, so should not be that difficult to get.

But you don't have to side with only one faction
