Do I need a sound card... ?

So, pondering an issue with game freezing up and eventually crashing out during combat, where I've noticed loud/intense sounds start to slow down and stutter, so now wondering if it is the onboard sound that is causing an issue?
PC exceeds recommended spec, brand new graphics card with output via HDMI to digital TV... running Task Manager Performance while playing and nothing else seems to max out on available resources?

Any thoughts / advice gratefully received!

Well it could be the sound card but I would check other things like maybe maleware or overheating issues, does the stutter happen on other games as well or only Elite?

Sounds like you have driver or heat problems
What temps is your cpu, memory and gpu running at.

Do you have any overclocks also?

Thanks for replies, appreciated. Only noticed the stutter on Elite. No overclocking, all stock out of box. Good point re overheating: just downloaded Core Temp tool and tested game at High graphics settings up until first stutter and CPU Max temp is only 14c with Tj.Max rating of 90c, so that looks ok... need another util for GPU as running NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER... will update...
EDIT: GPU temp also seems stable around 50c
EDIT: game just warned me that "Temperature critical..." during test, thought Frontier had added some features there for a moment!! ;)
