Do I need corrosive resistant racks for unknown fragments?

Do I need cr racks for unknown fragments?

I did a forum search but couldn't find the answer.

I'm about to unlock Palin but before going out there I just wanna make sure I'm not comming back in an old corroded barnfind of a ship.

If I remember correctly, you don't need them for fragments. Only the full artifacts themselves. Not sure about probes though.

Unknown Fragments are Materials - no need for Palin's special cargo racks.

You need them for Unknown Artifacts.

As far as i can tell, all alien (Thargoid) artifacts corrode your ship.

As mentioned, fragments, are harmless.

There is a system Hip 140 something or other, that is nearby to Palin, it spawns Unknown Artifacts at signal sources near one of the planets, don't pick up the Artifact, bump into it at 20 speed and collect the resulting fragment.

at least that's how it used to work, sorry I can't check the name of the system for you but it's definitely on this forum somewhere...

Thanks to Tezcatlipoca I am now 100% sure they don't. They are a material item and will not cause any damage to your ship.

You do *not* need the special racks for fragments. As they are just Materials, they do not use cargo racks of any kind.

if he's not, I am.

fragments don't damage your ship, Artifact will.

Even better, go to one of the local alien crash sites out there that have about 3 artifacts on the ground at a time usually. You will collect your fragments much faster as long as you have an SRV.

Absolutely, Fragments are harmless.

How i know? Well, i just recently equipped anti corrosive cargo racks since having a UP and a UA in your ship is a recipe of great screenshots and video's now a days..

And i carry fragments for ages now..

I am sure, because I carry 40 or 50 fragments and do not have access to mr. Palin.
No corrosive damage whatsoever.

i was lazy. I took an unshielded asp explorer. No planetary landings in that after the 1st debacle lol
at USS's each fragment gives 3 materials, took me less than 30 mins to collect enough and have a couple left over "just in case"

Fragments are harmless, as already stated. You get fragments by shooting or crashing into Unknown Artefacts, just in case you were wondering.

I'm heading out to one of the crash sites, guaranteed ua's there, this is actually fun, especially after Qwent.....

I remember that feeling well. As soon as I got the Palin invite, I told Qwent I would see him after I drank away the memories of unlocking him. Have fun with your G5 drives. They are awesome.

If you go to the crash sites don't lock them from your Nav panel, those are bugged.

Thank you, I'll use these instead.
Never been to the crash sites, nice little trip and convenient for getting the unknown fragments at the same time.
