Do I need steam to play Odyssey?

It seems we are in the Alpha phase of the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Pre-Purchase roll out. With any luck they will iron things out soon then do a beta, then bring it all back down before a working launch of Pre-Purchase.

As @askavir has said, there is some weird thing going on with the FD website that they are aware of (tm). Hold on for a couple of days until it's fixed, else it's bound to be a major pita headache to sort. They did some comment about it that I saw in a similar thread on here, so have a look around Jim, hopefully it'll help :)
