Newcomer / Intro Do I need the detailed surface scanner to get my name attached to a shiny?

I came back from a 2 days exploration with my basic scanner and my hauler (had only 50K CR when I left) and I found a few planets that were not discovered before. When I handed in the data, I got a message about 'congratulation cmdr xyz, you're the first to find, xyz and here is your bonus'. So my question is - do I get my name attached to these stars or no because I haven't used a surface scanned? Just watched a video on exploring, and it mentioned that one needs a DSC to have a name tag attached. Which is it then?

Yes in principle you do need it

Edit : no sorry you dont, you need a surface scan, no need of the DSC itself, the D-Scanner wont be enough, you have to select a body and let the scan happen, it does work the same way with a DCS and you get more data hence more money, but a surface scan is all you need, detailed or not. You dont need any module for a non detailed surface scan.

No, you don't need the scanner, that just increases the money. You do need to do a surface scan. Target, get close, wait till the object has a name. A ships do this without an equipment

If your exploring for the pleasure of your name in lights, as I am.
You can jump into system fire the foghorn then check the system map to see if there are any undiscovered bodies you can grab the tag for. If not jump on to the next. Good luck commander! :)

Does the game actualy actively tell you if you have a new discovery named after you, or do you have to delve into the system map to find out?
