In makes sense though. It's nothing but a VR device interpreting the scanner's data. Also why we can look around 360° and our ship is nowhere to be seen. Virtual Reality... so futuristic!
However, that same invisible VR headset that we are all wearing in the game can't seem to provide an inbuilt HUD and so we have to rely upon key information being projected onto our cockpit canopy regardless of whether our canopy is intact or not...
