Do not sell your previous ships

Keep your previous ships and store them. Do not sell any ships ever.

Then you will be much safer from the I lost everything due to bugs/mistakes issues.

I thought of this when upgrading from Cobra to Asp but then again who wants to leave a ship in a system many light years from where you may travel to?
If they implemented the ship delivery mechanic then it may be a goer but for now I would rather trade in.

Always keep enough for insurance though!

Two god reasons for having ships all over the galaxy.

1. You have a bunch of cash stored in case of an emergency (I have 25 sidy's/Eagle's and Cobra's)

2. When you go to any shipyard you can instantly see how many LY other systems are away from you. I tend to buy a cheap ship at stations that stock all upgrades, or interesting places to visit. The ships act like a nav beacon. I also use the ships as shuttles between my Clipper & Type-7

I don't quite understand. I just save enough money for insurance.
And eventually we will have to pay for the storage of ships. I hope it is not too expensive, but it might be a waste of money to store a ship you're not likely going to reuse anyway.

I do plan to keep my Viper though. It is a wonderful fighter craft. I also still have a Freagle somewhere. I will probably never fly it.

If you have all these ships were do you get your credits from?

1. Sidwinder cost 32,457 credits each.
2. Eagle cost 44,543 credits each.
3. Clipper is around 37+ million
4. Type-7 cost between 7-8 million

Could you tell the rest of us how you can afford all these ships please!!

After all the game has only been released for 2 weeks.

I guess I could afford to lodge a sidey at interesting stations as I have become a commander of leisure. A bit middle class!! A sidey costing less than a credible weapon upgrade. With credits at the 2million mark a bit of hunting and shooting and the occasional mining expedition allows for fun in the sandbox.

Getting really annoyed about this because I've seen it in so many threads now... LOOSE is not the same as LOSE:

loose
luːs/

adjective

adjective: loose; comparative adjective: looser; superlative adjective: loosest

1.
not firmly or tightly fixed in place; detached or able to be detached.
"a loose tooth"
--------------------------------------

lose
luːz/
verb
verb: lose; 3rd person present: loses; past tense: lost; past participle: lost; gerund or present participle: losing
1.
be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something).
"I've lost my appetite"

I think what the OP is getting at, sometimes if the faecal matter hits the rotational wind deflector more than once in rapid succession, then you leave yourself vulnerable or in major debt back in a sidewinder.
The idea of keeping a store house of ships is a way of creating a sort of bank account / savings account. If you pick one location to keep your "deposits", then should things go really bad, you can pop to the bank and sell off a few stored ships for some capital to get you started again.

(For those thinking, if it is that bad just delete your save - while that is an option, you will also lose out on your reputation standings - so sometimes it is better to pay off the 200k debt and work back up than erase it all and start again)

trying to appear or sound more important or clever than you are, especially in matters of art and literature:a pretentious artcritic
The noveldeals with grandthemes, but is never heavy or pretentious.

I traded superconductors out of SOL during Gamma, made around 9 million, eventually bought a Type-7 and was making a million or more per hour. Now I'm in a Clipper I'm making 2million + an hour in Full cargo config 248T

Once you get in a big ship and have a 1mill to buy cargo, the money stars coming in fast. Buying a sidewinder or Eagle is small change.

Edit - My Clipper cost 22mill stock, not 37 mill. Have spent on lot on upgrades tho

Trading hard since the start of Gamma presumably...

I've got a trading Python, moderately upgraded, and a maxed Viper, I could buy a couple of dozen base Cobras with my petty cash, all through (mostly non rare) trading and no I haven't devoted my life to it nor do I live in my mum's basement! :)

Now I'm taking some time to go improve my combat skills!

That's the nub of it. Trading isn't difficult, getting the first couple of million is harder than making the next 50+

pretentious
How is it pretentious to ask that people use the correct word to describe their meaning? I think you should look at that definition of pretentious again, Jockey. Or should I just start using words that look similiar and sound similar to describe words that have completely different meanings. I think the word you're looking for is LAZY.
