Do NPC's respect comabt rank?

Does anyone know if NPC's are less likely to want to fight you if their combat rank is below your own?

Perhaps the opposite is true, because there is more to gain when defeating higher ranked pilots.

I notice a lot of NPC leave when they see my ship and then they supercruse out. But it could be the type of ship or rank but I am unsure.

I think you're on to something with that, I had a stock sidewinder pirate interdict me yesterday in my heavily tricked out Cobra. He left as soon as his FSD could spool up without a shot fired. . The relative quality of your ship/loadout seems to be a factor...it certainly wasn't about my combat rank

Yes I am Mostly Harmless but with a fully kitted out Cobra and I got a scan from a Sidey after being pulled and then he FS out of dodge with laser fire up his ass. He started FS before I gave him the goodbye shots.

Need some high rank / large ship player to come and answer.
Do you still get interdicted by Sidewinders when you're high combat ranked and in say a Python? That would be rather stupid.

I'm ranked "Competent", flying a top-notch Cobra and still get interdicted by Harmless loons flying unshielded Sidewinders.

I do see the occasional pilot turn tail and flee immediately.

Yes and its annoying, did he not see you were flying a Cobra and that you were Competent in super cruise? Why did he interdict you in the first place?

It would appear to be inconclusive. Perhaps NPC's of lower rank and/or ship have a greater probability of running away but some still stay and fight?

Im novice and get interdicted in my asp by sidies or eagles sometimes - they instant go for a jump after that - when you scan first no chance to shoot them down...
