Do other people see the same missions I see on the mission board?

To be honest I'm not sure. I have a feeling that various factors affect what missions you get offered, such as rank and reputation with the local factions and major powers. I do recall that when I started my second account the mission givers didn't seem all that friendly and at times were even quite insulting even if I was allied with their faction. Now that I've built up some ranks they seem much more pleased to see me.

There was an explanation from the Devs (Dom) a couple of weeks back - but I couldn't tell you which thread it was in.

IIRC, there's a randomization based on your rank and your rep with the minor factions in the system that means that you'll get different missions to everyone else - unless your rank and rep are exactly the same as theirs.

A buddy and I have taken the same mission's simultaneously before. We both took the same three massacre missions. Identical in every way.

It's an interesting question.

1. I cannot verify that other CMDRs who you are not winged with see the same missions, but I suspect they do, because...
2. CMDRs that you are winged with do see the same missions, and you can pick them up and fly them together.

*if you and your wingman have different ranks and different reps, the missions will be the same, but with different rank designators and payouts.

Sorta.
Everyone gets a fresh personal instance of the mission board.
But I've noticed that when the AEDC are running operations with high targets for completed missions, that our comms chatter shows when the boards are doing the same thing.

Relevant quotes:

Hi there,

No, just the actual rank.

And only profession ranks affect missions right now, not your ranks within the superpowers' military reserves.

Thanks,
Dom

Hi there,

I don't have everything in front of me right now, but from memory; if 2 people had exactly the same ranks and reputations, they should get exactly the same missions.

By and large, the rng is seeded at generation stage, so with the same inputs would we would get the same outputs.

Thanks,
Dom

Hi there,

Give me a sec and I'll try to dig out a post I made a few months back about this...

The short version is the mission types on a board are the same for everyone on the same adjudication server, but certain features of those missions change based on your rank/rep/etc. during what we call the mission scaling stage.

Thanks,
Dom

No. You will get the same mission if you are on the same server. What your rank and rep etc changes is the reward you get.

Back when I played consistently with a group of players we did some testing on this. The end result we found is no you will not see the exact same missions or even the same amount/# of commodities at a station. With missions there will be some overlap due to pending and current states. Players cannot take missions from you nor buy out available goods. This was particularly noticed with rare commodities.

Because of the sheer vastness in size of this game FD has to rely on smoke and mirrors to give the illusion of a true living and breathing galaxy. Rather a series of connected rooms without persistence . The bsg does a decent job with economic demands based in states along with mission generation. Unfortunately once that illusion is broken your sense of "wonder" dies with it, at least for me, and you aint getting it back.

Yes, there arwe some technical things, but I have taken the same mission as a wing mate, and we have both done the mission, and both been paid.

It "sort of" works for wing missions, but... not properly, and it can be buggy to do it, but it can also be kinda fun.

Yep, exactly this.

As asked. If I go to a station and access the mission board, am I taking missions other people would be taking?

Yesterday I was doing a surface scan mission somewhere in Imperial space and there was a landed, unmanned Python near the target base; don't remember the cmdr's name. Maybe he was doing the same mission. Although I never met its srv. Was a cool situation. Where he could have been? [where is it]

Fly safe, fly open.

From the quoted dev posts I we can probably conclude that under exactly the same circumstances the missions shown to two players would be the same. But these are still not THE SAME MISSION as both can take them.

This is the most important one:

If you are on the same server, you will all get the same missions. Certain features on those missions will change though depending on rank/rep etc. Mission scaling would be reward, possibly cargo count, and the rank of the enemy you need to kill, or the amount of enemys you need to kill.

But you will all see the same type of mission and possibly with the same destinations as well.

An example; the system is at war we both go to the missionboard at roughly the same time, we will both see a Combat zone kill mission for the same faction. The differences will be reimbersement and possibly the amount of ships that need to be destroyed, which changes during the mission scaling action which changes the mission parameters based on you rep and rank.

Yeah, try landing at a station in a wing, and looking for assasination missions, you can all take one to kill the same dude, you'll all get paid different amounts due to rank etc, but as long as you all get a hit in on him, you all complete it, and can all turn it in.
