Do special effects (like fire, smoke, lasers, etc) have a benefit on the ride/coaster?

Does anyone know if adding special effects to the ride like smoke, fire, lasers will increase the excitement or popularity of the ride/coaster? Because I'm putting a lot of effort in making many of the drops of my ride to have stuff like flame throwers next to the tracks triggered when the car is about to reach that zone but I'm not sure if that would benefit the ride. Or are those shiny things just to have my eyes happy?

Thanks.

Adding two triggers to a coaster will take the track scenery rating from "high" to "very high".
In other words, without triggers, you can not achieve a "very high" rating.

This is found at the bottom of the test results tab.

Ah great. So I need to increase the scenery rating to High first, otherwise I won't see the benefit of the triggers, right?
So, as a conclusion, the triggers/special effects won't increase the excitement of the ride, correct?

Thanks

Correct!

The trigger probably increase the scenery rating any way, but to get very high you have to hit the max scenery plus triggers.

The only thing that effects EFN, is head choppers (going closely under track or scenery) increases the fear.
Airtime gives a good boost to excitement.

I dunno, Bitter. I think I've seen instances of getting very high scenery with nothing but a couple of triggered events and the rest of the track naked. Also, I think I've seen some increase in excitement from triggers as well. But I'm often drunk when I play PC so I could well be wrong.

But anyway, headchoppers also have a slightly positive effect on excitement as well as fear, but not much of either. Footchoppers are not a thing at all. For a very detailed analysis of this subject, see this Brothgar video: https://youtu.be/8sDLBOp2bdA

I do know, however, that burying inversions under terrain very slightly lowers E and F, like by less than 0.1. I did some testing on that a while back. This applies even to burying just the beginning of a large, pre-built inversion track piece, even if 99% of the piece is up in the air above all terrain.

not exactly, bj. you can also detect a (slightly) change in excitement / fear ratings if your coaster supports in sections are very high or very low (by adding terrain below). after the addition of terrain both values drop a little bit.

Which makes some sense looking at the heatmaps. On lift-hills excitement grows very little only because of the increase in height.
