Just wondering if pulse, and burst turrets work?
Pre 1.3 one could rely only on beam turrets, but I'd like to fit either pulse, or bursts for a mining build.
Large hardpoints, if that makes a difference for the answer...
Yeah they work fine, slower on shields than beam but quicker on hull, I've used all sizes successfully although if you want to save weight and your ship runs cool class 1 beams have similar DPS and power to class 2 pulse (almost four times the cost though!).
I generally use pulse due to power limitations or a mix of beam and pulse depending on the ship and where it's going to be used (some nav beacons can get a little toasty so not the best place for beams ).
The other issue is the significant loss of DPS, even though a turret will probably land more hits the damage is down significantly (70% down compared to a large fixed) so I usually fit no more than two turrets on a Python or FDL or any ship with four or more hard-points.
Good to know they are working.
I'm not too worried about the DPS, as this is a Python miner build, just need some self defense while I plink at rocks, and await Rover to fetch them.
For a miner build seeing as one or more of the hardpoints is fitted with mining lasers I'd fit the biggest weapons you can as one or more won't be used for combat, say 2 x class 3 pulse (turret or gimbal) on top and 2 x class 2 beam turrets on the smaller hard points.
Mining lasers do seem to have a high thermal load so perhaps a single class 2 on the lower hard point if you fit beams on top, I've occasionally had heat damage with a laser equipped Python (3 pulse + 2 beams), I must try a mining Python I suspect it's going to be good at it just like every other task
