Do the station traffic reports post actual data?

Just wondering whether ship totals in the traffic report are actual or made-up.

They seem to be much lower numbers in the more remote systems.

I'm not sure.

Back in earlier Beta I was making regular trading trips between two systems, and it looked like it was counting each appearance of my ship in the system as "a ship traveled through here" so the data was reading "Sidewinders: 2, Haulers: 1, Cobras: 60."

However I just flew into an obscure system out on the fringes (Binbeal, home of the Binbeal Drug Empire and nowt else), sold some exploration data (the Binbeal Drug Empire love me), logged out and back in and checked the system traffic log and there was no mention of my (or anyone else's) Asp in the list.

The traffic report seems to count all commanders playing in Open Play as well as in Solo Online.
The NPC are not taken into account.

The most ships I have seen so far mentioned on the board were on the 2nd Nov. at I Bootis : 18,037 Ships (9,057 sidewinders)
750 Commanders per hour.

I've been out in a couple of systems where I've only seen 1 other player in days, so I've been able to count each appearance of my Lakon 6/Asp into the systems. As Silvershadow notes, it doesn't appear to count AI as I was definitiely fighting an NPC Asp for a parking space (He docked, I waited, he flew off, ship counter still only registered 1 Asp in system in past 24 hours).
