General / Off-Topic DO they eat their own dog food?

Last time I've used any kind of social media was about 7-8 years ago. No facebook, myspace, twitter, instathing...whatever.
I have e-mail, and a few forums I visit. Such as this one.
It's doable, and once you realize there's nothing much to lose when not using those things - you won't even ever think of getting an account and starting over.

I am the same except I never started.

Interesting article from the Guardian - is that an acceptable news source?

Developers of platforms such as Facebook have admitted that they were designed to be addictive. Should we be following the executives’ example and going cold turkey – and is it even possible for mere mortals? ....

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/jan/23/never-get-high-on-your-own-supply-why-social-media-bosses-dont-use-social-media

Never used facebook, twitter, or whatever there is out there.
I also got rid of my mobile phone years ago.
So, I'm good. I went cold turkey 'avant la lettre'.

I have seen the type of messages, info and conversations people have on these media. It is an utter waste of time.
It is almost as bad as wasting time on game forums... uhmm....

I too left Facebook quite a number of years ago and have never looked back. Those folks there are even more insane than some of the forum posters here. :D

I was only on there for a couple of years and left mainly in disgust of the amount of complete misinformation spewed there and the rampant gullibility of the masses who believed it all. I am fond of paraphrasing "Facebook is the devil!" and surmising that the zombiepocalypse is already upon us as folks peer into their smartphones oblivious to the world around them.

And yes, I had a smartie phone once for the length of a 2yr contract but only used it for talk (yes talking), text and checking the weather. I dumped it and went back to a flip phone so I can still talk and text. For the weather I just look out a window now.

There was a different game once, long time ago where some enterprising souls used my FB account to gather personal details aqbout me and used them against me in the game...aint used hardly any social media since because they didnt stop with me, but went into my daughters account too to use details about her against me.

It was a pvp heavy environment...way more salty and bitter than what goes on here but the point is, I dont see social media to be a good thing anymore. Ergo I dont partake in it anymore...at all ^

FB, Twitter and the like, never tried them, never will.
I'm on YouTube and LinkedIn.

It seems that FB and all so called 'social media' platforms are being recognised for encouraging the most anti-social behaviour, and for making all their subscribers data fodder by the most malicious and invasive use of technology in the history of humanity.

LinkedIn, at one time, kept asking me to allow it to access my contacts lists.
And Windows 10! By default it allows apps to access flipping everything on 'your' machine.

Are you not glad that you live in a free, democratic society?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Yeah, I don't really facebook anymore. I spend more time on Twitter, but just because I created an account a few months ago to one-up TJ and it's still kind of 'new'. I'm pretty 'meh' on social media in general these days.

I use FB because I'm essentially a shut-in, but I still like to see photos of what's going on outside. It's been a cycle for me; I solely used forums until ditching them all, approximately 8 years ago, when I created a FB account. I'm now going back the other way... [edit: I should say, every time FB puts up a "would you like to share this memory?" question, I delete the original post it's offering I share. I've been doing this for a couple of years, it's been a convenient way to cull old posts.)

I don't do FB and never have.

As for mobile phones I have one as it's pretty much an essential tool for surviving in business these days. That being said I hate mobile phones and would do without one if I could (but no).

What I don't do is sit on public transport and FB and Tweet like everyone else does... I think the mobile phone addiction is actually pretty sad.

Only use FB to keep tabs on family as we are spred all over the globe, yeah we all legged it out of the UK.

Bar that I have never used it as a sounding off platform and dont read anything from those who do.

What I don't get is when an employer insist on looking into your social media history or want you to see all your GitHub 'contributions'.

There many in my peer group who exists 'off grid' and good luck to them.

I use Facebook as a means for old school friends to find me.

But I never actually post anything, I just use messenger.

Last time I used Facebook, I'd set it up so people's random dull posts didn't show up. So it was basically just a list of adverts. Lol

Not really interested in knowing what someone's had for lunch, or that they've done the chores, or taken a dump. Lol

I have Twitter, but I basically only use that to complain when EE stops working.

Most of my online "social" interaction is actually done right here. Lol

I was on facebok once because my school forced me to make an account so I could follow school news and infos. Other than that never felt the need to have a twitter, myspace or any of this. Looking how some of my friends are addicted to this social media stuff I think it was the right call.

Ideally this would happen at Space stations in game.

With FB you are required to use your real name and seems to cause users more trouble than benefits. Anyone remember Friends Reunited?
